Just thought I'd share this daft thought with you:
A hovercraft is fitted with a skirt to help it 'fly' more efficiently. Presumably, as with ships, the hovercraft is referred to as 'she'.
If the hovercraft was referred to as 'he', would they have fitted trousers instead of a skirt?

De Havilland DH89 Rapides (1936+ small passenger twin engine biplane) were fitted with - "trousers"!!!!!!!!!!! Very risque, pre-WW2, I think! Despite that, probably the most beautiful biplane ever!
