Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.
Yesterday I took what is hopefully the last exam to obtain an Open University degree in mathematics (gosh, that sound good - I've forgotten most of it already ).
To be comfortable for the three-hour brain-dumping exercise, I wore a black corduroy Union kilt. At the end of the exam, the invigilator asked about the kilt, saying she couldn't place the tartan. I explained it is a modern kilt and how comfy it is. She replied that her partner is a Scot and also says how comfy kilts are. I can imagine the conversation in their house that evening: "One of the students at the exam I was invigilating was wearing a kilt" etc.
I had to walk past the student accommodation blocks to get back to the car, and there were a good number of students around - I'm old enough to be their father . Not one made a comment, although some must have seen an oldish guy in a modern kilt
Charlie, I hope the exam went well for you. Were you wearing your "lucky" kilt?
I wonder which of the educational establishments in the area you were taking the exam at? Bristol or Bath? or further afield.
I hope it has all gone well for you. I'm studying in my "free" time, but I don't know whether I could go kilted to the exam. You're an inspiration to us all!
