Exam in a kilt

Post by Charlie »

Yesterday I took what is hopefully the last exam to obtain an Open University degree in mathematics (gosh, that sound good - I've forgotten most of it already :( ).
To be comfortable for the three-hour brain-dumping exercise, I wore a black corduroy Union kilt. At the end of the exam, the invigilator asked about the kilt, saying she couldn't place the tartan. I explained it is a modern kilt and how comfy it is. She replied that her partner is a Scot and also says how comfy kilts are. I can imagine the conversation in their house that evening: "One of the students at the exam I was invigilating was wearing a kilt" etc.
I had to walk past the student accommodation blocks to get back to the car, and there were a good number of students around - I'm old enough to be their father :) . Not one made a comment, although some must have seen an oldish guy in a modern kilt :D

Charlie, I hope the exam went well for you. Were you wearing your "lucky" kilt?
I wonder which of the educational establishments in the area you were taking the exam at? Bristol or Bath? or further afield.
I hope it has all gone well for you. I'm studying in my "free" time, but I don't know whether I could go kilted to the exam. You're an inspiration to us all!

It was at the Wills' Hall on the Downs in Bristol.
This exam was a resit. First time round I wore a denim kilt. Perhaps corduroy is luckier?
