What did *you* wear "out and about" today? part2
Re: What did *you* wear "out and about" today? part2
I wore my Douglas tartan Sportkilt (with a gray t-shirt) today. While my wife and I were shopping we saw a guy in a black Utilikilt. Encouragement all around.

cool to hear

Re: What did *you* wear "out and about" today? part2
I bought some new T-shirts, so called "muscle shirts" (no sleeves), I got them in extra tall, even tho I'm only 6'1". I figgered with no sleeves the lower part of the T-shirt would go down at least to my knees, they do, actually a couple of inches longer, my new pale blue colored one goes perfect with my favorite skirt which is a straight semi A-line sewn of pale blue cotton with multi - colored tropical fishes swimming all over it. Anyway, I wore this combo out to the store today and got a few looks and one comment. A good one, she said my shirt looked like one of those "hip hop" shirts because it is so long, I got a bit embarrassed as she pointed out that my white slip was slightly showing in the back..oooops!! After some re-arranging everything was where it was supposed to be and I went on with my shopping. Anytime I wear twill cotton or denim I wear a slip as both those materials are too rough for my old skin and the slip does it's job well.

The weather looks as if it is going to be fine and warm here today so I am wearing a knee length denim skirt and a t-shirt.

Re: What did *you* wear "out and about" today? part2
This year, the little town I live in celebrates its 200th "birthday". Formed from carvings of the surrounding towns, and the center of it having been drowned beneath a reservoir serving Boston in the late 1800s, it's been a rough road for this little hamlet of about 7,000 souls. So this year has been a big bash for the townfolk.
Today was the "Grand Parade" -- a three hour affair down what we now call our "main street" with marching units and display teams from all over the state and some from beyond. It was a jolly good show; the usual spectacle of the local Fire Department kit swelled one's civic pride (and the kit of some of the surrounding towns as well -- a staple of such events in small-town America), there were a few bagpipe bands with players in full kilt regalia (damned smart-looking, too, I might add), and several marching bands. I suspect -- or at least I hope -- a rousing good time was had by all.
To this gala, which Sapphire and I watched from the balcony (OK, handicap-access ramp) of our local "establishment", I wore my red velvet skirt, a white dress shirt, my red waistcoat, and my London Underground necktie. And my black loafers.
I need to get another pair of shoes; these are getting boring. However, at a US men's size 12, anything more than purely functional is a bit of a pipe-dream...
I got a couple of nice comments as well, mainly those who wondered why the "peacock-male" didn't march in the parade!

I always find pipe bands a stirring sight - the atmosphere is good. I think I mentioned a while ago that the North Devon Pipes & Drums practice outside close by, mainly Thursday evenings, and it makes for a free show - pity I can't see as well though. There are a few field hedges in the way

Peacock male huh? riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
Back to the thread, I went to the grocery today, wore my white twill straight skirt, a white slip so no one could see through the skirt, a new extra tall muscle T-shirt in teal green, the hem of the T-shirt goes to my knees, my black birkenstock sandals. The teal green T-shirt looks good with the white skirt I think. No comments at all from anyone. They are used to me and my skirts at the grocery. Just business as usual.

Re: What did *you* wear "out and about" today? part2
Yesterday I went to the beach for a beach survey / clean up run by the Marine Conservation Society. The weather forecast was for near perfect beach weather, sunny, warm (not hot) with a gentle breeze. I elected to wear a stone coloured sarong (actually the Jdez mock cargo sarong) and a black t shirt. These were teamed with some toe loop tan leather sandals I bought in Italy a few months ago - perfect beach attire.
I wore this outfit right from home, including stops at two motorway service areas, one on the way down and one on the way back. With the modesty snap left unfastened (it hangs better that way) the skirt was a little inclined to lift in the light breeze showing off a significant length of leg and raising a few eyebrows but I was still showing less skin than many of the outfits being worn by others and I quite enjoyed the flirty feel of the skirt flapping around my legs. Walking from the car to the beach through the dunes I fastened the extra snap as the breeze was just strong enough that a full "Marilyn moment" seemed a real possibility.
Have fun (I did!),
Ian.

Today, I stayed in, slept most of the day, just came out a bit ago. Put on a purple T-shirt, ankle length cotton blue skirt with fishies swimming all over it. I have several skirts made from this same material. It's very comfortable. Loafers with white sox. Just playing with my brand new Dell computer, by the way, ChrisM and B&B...your discs are on the way.
Burned them yesterday and got them to the Post office.

Re: What did *you* wear "out and about" today? part2
To my organ and keyboard club yesterday evening...black kilt, cream shirt, long black socks, black shoes. One woman (about my age) on the way out asked if I was from this area. She said 'You look very smart'. Hmmmmmmmm
. During other conversations throughout the evening no-one else mentioned the kilt.
Amazingly, after 2 hours of sitting, the pleats were as sharp when I got home as when I went.

My only out and about today was to the post box by the street to get my mail and put out the garbage for the morning pickup. I wore a straight knee length black skirt with a small paisley pattern on it, light weight cotton, good for warm weather. Purple pocket T-shirt, brown loafers and white sox.

Re: What did *you* wear "out and about" today? part2
Today, for my second skirted outing I went to the 'Valley O Frocks', sorry, typing error...'Valley Of Rocks', near Lynton, North Devon. Still using the denim skirt of late, grey Tshirt, grey socks, black shoes. I sensed that this got some stifled sniggers at a filling station on the way where I pulled in, got 10 quid's worth of gas, sarnies and a Coke. This was between a 20-ish guy in threadbare jeans which looked in urgent need of de-coking, out of an equally disshevelled 'white van', and the woman cashier, both of whom I suspect are old buddies because he said upon leaving, 'See yer tonight then'. So obviously it was a shared snigger at my expense.
I'll have to look out for a knee-length for future expeditions, as this one is on the short side which some of you have pointed out already. I wasn't bothered about the sniggers - good luck to them. It hasn't dampened my spirits at all.
