Coining new words

Post by Uncle Al »

OK Gent's ( and Ladies too). Put on your thinking caps :!:

In several of the recent posts, new words were 'created'
to 'represent' an idea or thought by the author of the post.

Just as a person who lives in Boston is called a Bostonian, I have
thought of a 'word' which would describe a skirt wearing person.

Skirtonian -- a group of people who like, and enjoy, wearing skirts. :D

Phrase--" My fellow Skirtonians, it is time............"

A Skirtonian is either male or female, and prefers skirted garments.

All of us fit this catagory. Any opinions on the word :?:

******

Ok, Your turn :)

It reminds me of "Newtonian" a bit too much. To paraphrase, "A skirt, once blown up, will remain blown up in the minds of anyone who witnessed it."

Makes sense to me, very insightful. How about a word for a person that enjoys pencil skirts, a "pencillonian" and when he gets a new pencil skirt, he's just had a "pencilectomy". Let's see, having an addition to a dance skirt might be called having a "petticoatomy". Someone who wears petticoats, might be considered a very "petti" person. A plane with a skirted man inside might be considered an "A-liner" instead of an Airliner...gurgle gurgle burp.

Excellent Mr Since! I love the pencilectomy. You are a fine wordsmith and a skirtist as well. Oh yes, you make your own so you are also a skirtmonger too.
As far as skirtery goes you are an allrounder methinks.

Is Skirtonian physics in any way related to Brownian motion?

Better to catch wind :P than to leave a wind.. :?
( i'm not quite sure how fahrting is said in neat english any more)

Nice name thought up by the way.

As the whole male / female clothing / travesty etc story should be updated / overhauled to today's specs, some of those names should also be put forward.
A man is the same man in a pair of pants or a skirt. It is only the way people look at him that makes the difference.

Ziggy, there's nothing wrong with Fashion Freestyler, it's just not a new word. It's a phrase, and neither Fashion or Freestyler is new.

Only in a very fluid sense.

There's another one that came to mind yesterday: "Masculinity is neither created nor destroyed during the course of wearing a skirt." To be technically correct in the modern world, though, and to make the thing line up properly, one needs to insert the term "non-nuclear" between the words "a" and "skirt". What would constitute a nuclear skirt is left to the imagination of the reader. :cyclops:

Sapphire, I think Brownian motion occurs right after what peter v refers to as "fahrting"...followed quickly by a lot of apologies and a quick trip to the "little room"... :censored: :green: :hooray: :red: :shadow:   :thewave:

Hmm.... A nuclear skirt? That would be one with a male side and a female side, 2.4 children, a dog and a white picket fence.

Ziggy--I understand that you prefer the Phrase 'fashion freestyler',
but that's just it, it is a Phrase-not a 'new' word created to represent
an idea, place or thing. I was shooting for a group of 'new words'
to convey our thoughts and principles, not a previous phrase.

Please, don't take me wrong as there is nothing wrong with your
preferences. Depending on the context of a discussion, your phrase
may be used with as much of a bat of the eye as any other phrase.

I'm looking for new 'catch words' to help update our image and move
us forward into the fashion scene, and to get the 'snobs' on 5th Ave.
to realize 'their ideas' for mens fashion IS NOT WHAT WE WANT!
Maybe, for once, the fashionistas will listen to the public's ideas
instead of dictating what men will wear. [ Yeah, I know--Fat Chance! ]

I've been told many-a-time that to be a good speaker, you must
be a good listener. So far, I feel that the 5th Ave Snobs have not
listened to the public in over 30-50 years. Neither has the Media.
For example, you say to a reporter friend ...'Did you hear that
Joe Brown has a broken finger an asked for help in changing a flat
tire?' By the time the 'story' reaches the main news show,
'Joe Brown was in a full body cast, changing a tire, and was
run over by an 18 wheeler.' Was 'this reporter' a good listener?
I don't think so because 'the real story' was not a 'newsworthy story'.

As you can tell, some of our 'patrons' are a bit 'Punny' :D
and why not :?: :?: Punsters help to eliminate tension and,
as Reader's Digest say's, Laughter is the Best Medicine. We all
need a good laugh now and then, as this helps to keep us on
an even keel! ( Plus laughter helps us to live longer. )

So Ziggy, please put on your thinking cap and submit some new
words which describes our goals. You can be as 'Punny' as you want. :D
