This afternoon, out for dinner, I wore a white dress shirt, my dark blue waistcoat, black velvet skirt, off-white opaque legwear, and a "London Underground" necktie.

I think it worked.

I had on my adidas skirt when I was cleaning my car out to go do a RallyX, and then I switched to some dirty jeans because it was going to be hot and dirty and dusty (all of them at once), and I saw some guy with jeans from the women's dept. and green eyeshadow (he was doing tech inspections, and somehow mine passed, don't ask me how) and it looked really cool, but there was no way I would've worn a skirt there since it was way too windy and dusty.

On the even cooler side, I probably came in faster than a guy who I know who has an Impreza that has turbo, snow tires, slightly better suspension, brakes, MT, and 2.5L boxer.

Mine, 2.2, upgraded shocks, no turbo, AT, street tires, stock crap brakes.

Experience > Money/Car upgrades. (most of the time)

Wore my tan Utilikilt this afternoon, with blue knee socks and a blue T-shirt. (It was around 70 deg. F today, and sunny.) I went grocery shopping, then took my son to his therapy appointment. The only comment I got was from the therapist, who wanted to know what the occasion was. Oh, and someone driving by me honked, but I don't know what, if anything, that means. People around here honk for any and for no reason.

today at work...

maroon plaid tab-collar long-sleeve shirt
grey speckled skirt & zippered vest combo
black half-slip
black chevron patterned tights
black & blue sandals
(yes, i know. sandals & tights are a fashion faux pas, but so is much of what we do.)

:hmmm: Wait a minute -- that's not black! It's not even terribly dark! ;)

The nice thing about being on the frontier is that many of the "rules" don't necessarily apply.

A failure

Post by crfriend »

I figured I'd try to reprise one of my most successful looks (red waistcoat, red skirt, pale yellow shirt) this evening but as my pale yellow shirt has seen its last days opted instead for my new pink dress shirt.

It was not received well, and that hinged on subtleties of colour that hinge on blue and that I may not be able to reliably discern. It turns out, upon trying other colour schemes, that the skirt and shirt looked better with my blue waistcoat (and abjectly failled with a white one).

I think I have a way to go on this notion....

It is a matter of being sensitive to shades of color. In this case reds. There are pure reds, blue reds, orange reds, and gradations in between.

If one is going for a basically monochromatic look, one needs to be sensitive to the shades of color.

Ok, it was more like last night, to a concert....but I wore a black t-shirt, a red plaid shirt over it, a grey patterned "Warrior Cloth" sarong, and sandals. I got hot there, but everyone else did too, the place was packed.
