Gentlemen,
There are such tings as needle threading devices.
They've been around since I was a lad. Have a look on Amazon. That's where mine is coming from and it should arrive tomorrow. Of course, they may not work with EU Needles!

Re: latest creation
Old wives tale - if one moves the needle to the thread that is that feminine method.
if one moves the thread to the needle that is the masculine form.
So whatever works disregard them ole wives. I can say that I am not married !
The needle threading devices are small wire hoops with a pointed end to push thru the eye of a needle.
After doing that the wire hoop expands a bit and allows for a thread to be threaded thru the big hole (hoop).
Then pulling back on the hoop thru the eye the needle is threaded.
Now if you are having trouble threading the hoop thru the needle how do you expect to thread the needle in the first place? Good Luck LOL !
Still having troubles - take a sharp scissors and nip off the end of the thread at an angle then with a moistened finger
moisten the tread and then try to thread the needle. The moisture gives just enough stiffness to make it easier
to poke the thread thru the needle and keep the thread ends from spreading/splintering going thru the needle.
Having good vision (and depth perception) is a big help as well as lighting to see what you are doing - sorry Reaper_Man
and Sinned your handicaps are not helping you but patience is a virtue so keep at it - it can be done; might need a magnifying glass.
Some modern sewing machines can automatically thread themselves and others have a small funnel type threading
device to aid in threading the needle.
My paternal grandmother was a seamstress and taught me a lot of tricks about sewing.
One more is if you are going to do more sewing with that same needle and thread - thread more than enough thread
than what you need for the one project so you don't have to thread the needle again and perhaps again. Helps to have
more than a few needles around with threads ready to go.
Darn it which reminds me I have some sox to darn (sew the holes up) and a stitch in time saves nine (maybe) !

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: latest creation
I just bought a machine and plan to take some sewing classes from beginner to making dresses/skirts and doing alterations. It looks like one of the very beginning projects will be a pencil skirt. And I watched a YouTube tutorial on making a skirt that I think I can do. Goal would be making a tailored skirt to my dimensions with two somewhat invisible side pockets and perhaps one hip pocket along with some belt loops that is also a bit stretchy so I can gain or lose a few pounds and still wear in 'friction-fit' mode and use the belt if I lose too much weight upon which signal I can practice alterations.
Hopefully a nice hobby if nothing else and keep me out of mischief.

Re: latest creation
So what does that make you if both are in motion at the same time to meet someplace in the middle? (Recall that I'm ambidextrous and also a grand-master at solving problems in three dimensions.)r.m.anderson wrote:Old wives tale - if one moves the needle to the thread that is that feminine method.

The proper method to use, of course, is the one that works best for you. 'Nuff said.

Re: latest creation
Darryl, good luck with your new machine and sewing lessons. It may seem like a big expense in the beginning but we'll worth the investment when you look at the price of clothes these days, and in our case most of it comes from China anyway and does not fit. An overlocker is also a good investment.

i find the easiest way to fix holes in socks is to bin them and buy new onesr.m.anderson wrote:Darn it which reminds me I have some sox to darn (sew the holes up) and a stitch in time saves nine (maybe) !

I'll take a look at the darning thing but I've always been the local holy man. Just look at my socks and you'll see why.Reaper_Man wrote:i find the easiest way to fix holes in socks is to bin them and buy new onesr.m.anderson wrote:Darn it which reminds me I have some sox to darn (sew the holes up) and a stitch in time saves nine (maybe) !
Re: latest creation
I'm the type of person that rarely wears clothes out and that goes for socks as well. I have loads and loads of pairs of socks which is a shame because I tend to wear tights and holdups most of the time now.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Re: latest creation
Superb look on that kilt. Well done. I'm a sucker for box pleats too. Both of the gone made skirts I wear are box pleated.
Sewing isn't as hard as some make out: it can't be, as I seem to be able to do it reasonably well. In quite looking forward to this year's project inspired by the skirt I saw a waitress in last year...

Re: latest creation
Thanks for all your comments guys. Are there any other guys out there that make there own kilts? If so why not post pics of them so we can all see. Personally I find it very calming when I am making my kilts, everything else in my life fades away for a while.

Re: latest creation
I should stop posting from my phone.
When I said "gone made" above, I actually meant "home made". I have a pic of one of them in my pics and looks thread. I don't have a photo of the other yet...
