Garden Railways, Model Railroad, Wood Shop, Theatre Organ, and the
occasional Aircraft magazines such as Kit Planes and R/C Aircraft.
Once in awhile a boating magazine due to having a 20' pontoon boat.
My wife gave me a subscription to Texas Highways. It is a great
publication giving info about Texas, and special 'out-of-the-way'
places to visit which are not near any major highway/Interstates.

Usually Outdoor Photographer or Nature Photographer. Usually the former, since the latter can be hard to find. A shame, really, since I prefer it to Outdoor Photographer. Sometimes, I'll pick up Mountain Bike Action or one of the regional magazines, if there's something of interest.

I just Have to carry a handbag. All my skirts and dresses have no pockets. Wearing ladies styled jeans and troussors there is no much of pockets there either so its a handbag all the time for me.

I use a bit of makeup, not much but I use toput on a makeup every day. My hair is long, hanging down my shoulder. Just now I have it a bit permed. Was at the salon to my hairdresser last week. She is good, she knows how I want my hair. I use to go there every tird week.

I see you using a handbag when you´re wearing s dress John. That´s nice. That´s good. I´m the same wearing a dress you must to have a handbag. Its as simple as that.A+J

Me too, I think its cool. My girlfriend telling he rs lady friends, "hey my boyfriend is wearing just the same heels you´re wearing". I´ve not what so ever any problems with this. I thinks its funny, its ok with me.

Its a bit pity I´m not wearing dresses more often. My girlfriend is the same. Most of the time I´m wearing a dress is when we´re going to a party or special occasions.
Its cool my girlfriend and me attending a party and we both wearing dresses. Sometimes we´re wearing the same color to our dresses, sometimes we´re wearing different colors. For example I go for a black dress, my girlfriend going or a red dress.

Last time we were out wearing dresses was to a bit of a cocktail party. I wore a black shirt dress, a bit tight one. The skirt of my dress ending about 2 inch above my knees.
My girlfriend wore a red dress. We both wore sheer black pantyhose. We both wore 5 inch spike heel pumps, red for me and black for my girlfriend.
Ofcourse we had our handbag/purse with us. we both had a small black purse with a golden chain, hanging over our shoulder. This handbag/purse is quite small but just the one to have for an outing like that. Its a bit small but just enough to have a wallet, keys, a mirror, a comb and a lipstick.A+J

I would assume it would be better to respond to other people instead of responding to yourself. no? You do realize A+J, this is not a crossdresser magazine, right??
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Car, evo and autocar mags- all car related. Also Trail (hillwalking), Q (music) and occasionally, Empire (film). Womens magazines bore the life out of me but if A+J finds them enjoyable, fine by me. Personally, I find 4 inch stilettos hard for either driving or hillwalking, so I tend to leave them alone. Of course I never rockclimb without wearing my favourite skirt suit and sheer hosiery.....

A long time ago I used to subscribe to -- and read -- Trains and Railway Age. Trains is a nice mag for railfans, but it got to be repetitious so I dropped it; Railway Age is a trade journal for railroad professionals, and a damned interesting read I'll add, but was also extremely expensive which is why I let it lapse (it remains one of the very few periodicals that I would routinely read from cover to cover).

I get by now on other folks' copies of ";login:" (the USENIX magazine) and other assorted bits that folks recommend articles in.

On the topic of Railway Age, on one of Sapphire's and my trips out west in the USA we had breakfast with a pair of chaps in a railroad dining-car as we approached Gary, Indiana. An interesting conversation about the integration of high-speed rail in the USA with the existing freight system was had, along with much enjoyment; I recognised the gentlemen's names -- they were the editorial staff of Railway Age. They were going to disembark to take what was (then) one of the last Interurban electric rail lines to make their way in to Chicago -- die-hard railfans both! We stayed aboard the Lake Shore Limited right to Chicago, and (unlike the proverbial pig) changed for the California Zephyr to head for Denver.

Carl,
Maybe we should start an off topic thread on riding trains. :) Other's have mentioned trains.
Except for the Southwest Chief, I've ridden most of the Amtrak routes in the west and on to Chicago. Sharing a dining car table is a great way to meet new people.

I know this is an old thread, but it was current during my absence so, I feel quite justified in putting in my contribution. I find womens' magazines to be shallow, trite and, in a way demeaning to their readership.
I have been a member of the National Geographic Society since 1968, so have all issues since then! I regularly get the three Land Rover publications from the U.K., Organic (gardening) , Australian Shooter (as a member of the SSAA (Oz's shadow of the NRA), Fine Woodworking, Permaculture (UK) and any irregulars that may take my fancy on the newsagent shelves. I far prefer a print magazine to an Emagazine.

Yes, I too much prefer a print magazine.
The ones I get are Time, New Scientist, and Mad.
The first two I subscribe to, and there's certainly enough reading in them for me each week. I gave up the daily paper when it went tabloid and subscribed to New scientist then, instead of just picking up copies at the supermarket. The subscriber price is much cheaper than from a shop, especially Time, which I have been getting for a long time. I pass on copies of the subscribed ones to friends.
Been getting Mad since it started some 60 years ago when I was a teenager. They just celebrated their 60th this year in fact. Pretty impressive longevity as mags go.
I notice classic editions of Mad in second hand shops, where they have no other magazines. No other mag is that durable!

Mad Magazine. I have only three words: "Spy versus Spy".

Better, even, than National Lampoon -- which, in its heyday, was a side-splitter.

"Dawk, Mr. Bestertester" I haven't read a Mad magazine for Gawd knows how long, maybe I should re acquaint myself with them. Captain Klutz was a good spoof on "superheroes".

Stocking my waiting room needs careful consideration. My staff want things like 'Hello' and womens' weeklies, but they get tatty very quickly. Illustrated coffee table books are better and more durable.
Aware of the paper mountain I now only buy my personal favourites occasionally. These include Mad, Nat. Geographic, the Economist and Stern (German). Car and yachting mags. are also high on the list, also airplane and boat modelling mags. The Wife buys gardening mags, which I also like looking at.

In Germany there was/is an organisation called 'Lesezirkel' or readers' circle, where they stocked your waiting room with a selection of weeklies and changed them every week. That gave plenty of time to look through them and took care of the paper mountain.

Yes sometimes I stock up the doctors' waiting room with "Time" as there are inevitably just women's mags, although some of the fashion pics do look quite good and also entertaining.
Not that "Mad" has all the laughs, the others also provide good levity:
This from "Letters", New Scientist 8th June under "Cosmic compendium" from Alexander Middleton, Moorooka, Queensland, Oz: "Your recent look at string theory addressed its potential to overcome the problem of Boltzmann brains-- spontaneous conscious entities that physicists predict could form by chance in our universe given a vast amount of time (25 May,p 12). But if the universe is destined to fill up with something that rules of physics don't rule out, it could be anything, not just space brains.
I expect to see much less complex (and so more probable) things sooner, such as Penny Black postage stamps or rubber chickens. Or trillions of monkeys with typewriters who will produce not only the complete works of Shakespeare, but a much fuller version, featuring all the plays and sonnets that Shakespeare didn't have time to write."

I hasten to add that nothing ails me, but I go for a quarterly check to make sure it remains that way!

I must have missed this thread the first time around, too. I don't savy "OG" either. Regardless, I don't have a magazine subscription. Dad passes on all of his Popular Science and Pop. Mechanics. I do read the womens fashion section in the paper for the great advise on what looks good together. It really is time for men to shape up and care a bit more about looking good.

As for trains, I've ridden a lot of them having worked for two railroads and hobo'd many. I have HO-N3 stuff that I haven't had time to mess with for many years. I still enjoy watching trains and riding if I have time.
You don't get to judge me by your standards. I have to judge me by mine.
