What kind og magazines do yoe read?
I´ve been reading typical guy´s magazines up until say 2 years ago. I´v been reading car magazines, motorcycles magazines and spports magazines.
Me starting wearing skirts and dresses, a bit of makeup too I beginning reading ladies magazines. First I borrowed my mother´s magazines, then my girlfriend´s.
I came to realize I needed too read the ladie´s magazines, they gave me more. Being interested in fashion, starting my own way of fashion I realized I needed this input. I need to know what´s the latest in the world of fashion. I need to know what clothhes to wear, what skirt to wear, what heels to have, what´s sort of makeup to wear.
From now on I just read women´s magazines. Its been ages since I bought or read a man´s magazines. Why? I just thinks women´s magazines are more interested, thats why.

Re: What kind og magazines do yoe read?
I heavily edited this posting since I felt the original wording as a bit too judgmental.
I like to read Popular Science, IEEE Spectrum, and various car and engineering magazines.
I don't read any fashion magazines - men or women.
I don't think you will find very many men in this forum [although there may be a few] who care anything about women's fashions.
We [especially in the United States] consider just wearing skirts as men is really pushing the envelope. If what you are saying what you wear is true, then it is nice that you have a bit more freedom to wear than I personally would feel free to wear. We can't even carry handbags or purses without being ridiculed. So any skirt I wear has to have pockets. I make it a general rule to wear a man's shirt and man's pair of shoes with my skirts. The only "make up" if it can be called is nail polish on my toenails, and then it is only various shades of grey, black, or gun barrel blue.
I have some medium and high heel shoes that for the most part I wear privately. I also have several dresses, and the only time I wear a dress publicly is for an occasional walk early in the morning or in the evening. When I wear a dress for evening walks my wife wears pants while we walk. My hair is quite a bit longer than my wife's. So it's very interesting - the person who has the long hair and wearing a dress has a deep masculine voice, and the person with the pants and short hair has a feminine voice. That is the only time I carry a purse since the dress does not have any pockets.
On al lighter note, my wife inadvertently told her female boss that I have stiletto sandals when she blurted out to her boss something like, "John's shoes look just like yours" when her boss was wearing stiletto sandals. I do not wear those sandals publicly. I used to wear wedge sandals publicly but I have backed off since just wearing a skirt with a man's shirt and a man's pair of shoes publicly to stores upsets the apple cart [social conventions] enough.

I must confess to reading the fashion news in the Friday Wall Street Journal. I've actually picked up a couple of good tips there in the past couple of years.JohnH wrote: I don't read any fashion magazines - men or women.

I just Have to carry a handbag. All my skirts and dresses have no pockets. Wearing ladies styled jeans and troussors there is no much of pockets there either so its a handbag all the time for me.
I use a bit of makeup, not much but I use toput on a makeup every day. My hair is long, hanging down my shoulder. Just now I have it a bit permed. Was at the salon to my hairdresser last week. She is good, she knows how I want my hair. I use to go there every tird week.
I see you using a handbag when you´re wearing s dress John. That´s nice. That´s good. I´m the same wearing a dress you must to have a handbag. Its as simple as that.

Me too, I think its cool. My girlfriend telling he rs lady friends, "hey my boyfriend is wearing just the same heels you´re wearing". I´ve not what so ever any problems with this. I thinks its funny, its ok with me.
Its a bit pity I´m not wearing dresses more often. My girlfriend is the same. Most of the time I´m wearing a dress is when we´re going to a party or special occasions.
Its cool my girlfriend and me attending a party and we both wearing dresses. Sometimes we´re wearing the same color to our dresses, sometimes we´re wearing different colors. For example I go for a black dress, my girlfriend going or a red dress.
Last time we were out wearing dresses was to a bit of a cocktail party. I wore a black shirt dress, a bit tight one. The skirt of my dress ending about 2 inch above my knees.
My girlfriend wore a red dress. We both wore sheer black pantyhose. We both wore 5 inch spike heel pumps, red for me and black for my girlfriend.
Ofcourse we had our handbag/purse with us. we both had a small black purse with a golden chain, hanging over our shoulder. This handbag/purse is quite small but just the one to have for an outing like that. Its a bit small but just enough to have a wallet, keys, a mirror, a comb and a lipstick.

Re: What kind og magazines do yoe read?
I find that the main intent of every women's magazine I have looked at is to make you feel worse about yourself. They are full of tips on how to disguise how you look (because you don't look good as you are, of course), and equally stuffed full of images that do little other than display the skill of the photo editor's handling of Photoshop. Every image is the same and they are there to make you want to look like the models in the pictures. This is, of course, completely unattainable, as even the models don't look like the pictures.
If you want to feel bad about yourself, if you want to feel guilty for eating bread, if you want to exist on 2 lettuce leaves per day, and be told, with every new page, that you are not good enough, then women's magazines are for you.
OTOH, if you want to be told, with every page, that you are valuable only for the size of your manhood, or your skill with a spanner and that, if you have a large one (or a large spanner), then impossibly-proportioned "beauties" will be beating a path to your door, then men's magazines are for you.
Personally, I prefer Mountain Biking UK.

Pity there are no mountians near Cambridge thenethelthefrog wrote:Personally, I prefer Mountain Biking UK.
I don't read magazines on a regular basis other than trade journals relevant to work. The only exception is an ocasional Scuba diving magazine or motorcyle mag, though in all honesty the former are usally just travel mags about places I have no real wish (or budget) to visit and the latter are usually full of tests of bikes likely to reduce my life expectancy to a few seconds.
Have fun,
Ian.

I weep about this fact daily. I moved for love, having lived quite successfully in Manchester and Hampshire. We moved to Scotland, but that only lasted a year (oh, pregnancy hormones, how we love thee), so I've been stuck on this snooker-table of a county for the best part of ten years now.Milfmog wrote:Pity there are no mountians near Cambridge thenethelthefrog wrote:Personally, I prefer Mountain Biking UK.

Sorry ETF,
I did not mean to touch a raw nerve. Where I am is far from mountanous but at least there are some nice climbs and descents in the Chilterns and the Thames Valley.

Great observation of those magazines. However, there is a line that borders on the male fantasy: "if you have ... a large spanner] then impossibly-proportioned "beauties" will be beating a path to your door" - Oh, I have several big ones (as we refer as wrenches in the US). I am still waiting for impossibly-proportioned "beauties" to beat a path to my door!ethelthefrog wrote:I find that the main intent of every women's magazine I have looked at is to make you feel worse about yourself. No problem. I have accepted my lot. Mrs EtF is tempting me with plans for a second residence in Glasgow, which would be nice, if a number of years distant.Milfmog wrote:Sorry ETF

Bicycling - but this is getting repetitive, their monthly theme seems to be lose weight, get fast quick. A variation on women's mags which always feature the monthly diet.
PC World - I work in tech, thus, this helps me keep up.
Ocean Navigator - about world sailing, some commercial articles.
Latitudes and Attitudes Seafaring Magazine - focus on recreational cruising - guess I am a dreamer.
Birds and Blooms - we feed the local bird population, especially in the winter. Really enjoy watching them in the mornings.
Thinking of picking up Fine Woodworking this winter, getting the WW itch again....

Re: What kind og magazines do yoe read?
I currently subscribe to and read four magazines.
Trains and Classic Trains (you can probably guess their subject.)
Cook's Illustrated Another easy guess.
The Atlantic Monthly A magazine on what is going on in the world. The current issue's feature story is "Israel is Getting Ready to Bomb Iran How, Why - And What it Means". This is a very old magazine dating from the mid 1850's
I've let a number of other subscriptions expire over the years including car and business magazines.

National Geographic, of course. We subscribe to monthly Astronomy & Space & The Irish Garden. I get occasional copies of Autocar, Sailing Today, Empire (films,DVDs), and Der Spiegel or Stern, to keep my German up to speed, also the Brit. equivalent, The Economist.
Otherwise it's books, which I devour avidly.
