To my mind that looks like a skirted Rabbi(t) leaving the Synagogue  :bom:

Careful there mate. If it wasn't for the bog-ugly skirt, the stupid baggy socks, the idiot footwear, the pork-pie hat, and the uniformly-coloured beard, that could (almost) be me.

Note to self: Find a black pork-pie hat and a narrow necktie and channel Elwood Blues, but skirted...

Excessive violence in the apprehension of the Blues Bothers has been approved.
They broke my watch!

Note to others: I you haven't seen The Blues Brothers yet, do. It's chock full of awesome music and hilarious lines. Familiarity with US Culture is not necessary, but sometimes helpful.

Blow-dried weenie in trousers with a bedspread tied 'round his legs. What's the point?

no insult meant mate i like that outfit i thought it was quite matrix like to be honest, id totally wear that i honestly have been eying that up for a few days, was just joking about with the rabbi thing, i still personally think thats a sleek suit like outfit to be honest with you

yeah i dunno just trying to show that theres a lot of skirts this year coming into the catwalk fashion shows (ala the title of the thread), i don't like the fashion industry, many people use it to simply be told whats 'good or bad ' to wear and seems in line with the 'culture creation industry' but I'm just hoping it gives awareness of men in skirts and further acceptance, honestly haven't meant any offense anywhere mate

My comment was aimed at Sarongman, not you Jessimeon, and was meant light-heartedly.

The look, to my eye, seems forced. It's got too many discordant elements in it, hence my slagging off on all of those at once. That the model reminds me of me in my younger days didn't enter into my evaluation of the rig, but was rather a foil for humour.

The problem with the "fashion industry" is that it seems to be filled with designers who want to fill the audience with "shock and awe" at how potent they are as designers and really don't produce anything that is practical or even workable in a real-world scenario. We've seen skeletal and sullen concentration-camp-survivor guys go down the runways for the past several years and the look has most certainly not caught on; this is the designers masturbating madly (sorry for the crude term) trying to attract attention to themselves without thinking about how a garment might actually be worn or used in real life ("meatspace"). The only conclusion that can be drawn from that is that the designers do not care about the notion and are merely trying (and failing, mind) to use it as shock and awe.

Personally, I am not one for "Fashion" -- especially Fashion with a capital "F". I am one who focusses more closely on style which can be very individual indeed, and has the power to express who one is inside without a word ever needing to be uttered. I find that skirts allow me to express my inner self vastly better than trousers ever did, and give me a range in which to express myself that was unimaginable when I was confined to trousers. I am unwilling to become a "fashion victim", and hence I speak out on the matter; the stuff that's been going down the runways for many years has been utter dreck!

That ensemble has a definite hasidic flavor. (think fundamental orthodox Judaism)
I too like the looks of the fedora, and have one or two in the top of my closet (not to mention the black suit and sunglasses).
Whenever I see a porkpie hat, I think of Joe Pesci or Gene Hackman's Popeye Doyle character in "The French Connection".

Found this pic and comment in my morning paper this morning. Apologies for the quality of the picture . I had to use a camera, couldn't find it on the web. Looks less far-fetched than most offerings on catwalks. Rather a guarded comment, I thought. Is it to late to wish all a Happy New Year? Patrick

I wouldn't buy any of the stuff I've seen men wearing in this thread or at the London show (pictures in todays paper), but then most clothes at these sorts of events are pretty far out.

It seems to me that those designers who are serious about skirts for men...found their own companies. So if you are looking for something to actually be worn, look at the links section.
