Tom,
Sorry to hear about the family ailment, I have a choice; nerve deafness seems to have passed me by, my Mother passed that one onto my brother. My Dads (low pressure) glaucoma has not yet manifested itself. However I do seem to have inherited my Mums loose and rattly skellington, the one with the bad back.

You pays your money, you gets no choice!

Yes B&B, it's a lottery, inherited diseases & traits. Most important thing though is to choose long-lived parents. That's distinctly advantageous, but in the end game you get to bury all your friends!
I would meekly suggest you shut that rattly skellington away in a cupboard somewhere and don't take it to Sea in your 'Wee Boat'...or on 'Royalist', either. Cod Liver Oil. That's the secret. (Active 55, & all that).

There were these two nonogenarian pals parked beside each other in orthopaedic chairs in the Day Room in their Care Home, and they had to shout at each other to get heard over the blare of the television. 'You know Derek', says one, 'If you & I hadn't given up the fags and the booze all those years ago we would have missed out on All This!!'

Depends on your viewpoint. Half way through his year I'll be three score & ten, and just today, calm & mild, I joined a group of single scullers leaving the boathouse at the top end of that lake at 2.30 PM and rowed down past the great divide into the left hand (looking South) wide bit, on to the yacht club & back, a distance of 14Kms. If anything was calculated to make you feel young, that's it.

Tom, you seem to have a good recipe for a decent life, Keep with the rowing. Maybe this year I will find the time to sail over to Ireland and have a meet with you. I certainly hope so.

Now there's a nice thought, B&B. Early Summer dates for me have crystallised so far into two: Sun. May 20th Brit. Nat Masters' Row. C'ships @ Nottingham,(I'll be towing the boats myself), and a three-day Archaeological Soc. coach trip to East Cork June 12-14th. (with the MM.)

The rest is free for now.

The only date I have concreted in is Royalist on the Sarf coast 9th to 15th June, but many other things will need to be planned in. Oh and a wedding in 22th Sept which clashes with our beer festival, I anticipate the festival is going to be a week later this year!
