I didn't know if this belonged in the Sewing subforum or here, but I was blown away (being the big geek that I am) when I saw this. Seeing this makes me wish I had thought of it independently. I know there are several other geeks here that might appreciate this. It's a skirt with several rows of LED's that light up selectively when they are pointing north.
Anyway: here is a video, and here is a description of how it was made

There's always Polaris -- if it's nighttime and the sky is clear (and, of course, you're in the northern hemisphere; our pals in the Antipodes have the Southern Cross).
