Northskirt
Northskirt
I didn't know if this belonged in the Sewing subforum or here, but I was blown away (being the big geek that I am) when I saw this. Seeing this makes me wish I had thought of it independently. I know there are several other geeks here that might appreciate this. It's a skirt with several rows of LED's that light up selectively when they are pointing north.
Anyway: here is a video, and here is a description of how it was made

Wow, never get lost when wearing that skirt -- at least until the batteries die!

There's always Polaris -- if it's nighttime and the sky is clear (and, of course, you're in the northern hemisphere; our pals in the Antipodes have the Southern Cross). Or during the day if you know what time it is and it's reasonably clear (for those who wear watches with 24-hour dials there's a neat trick to this; note that if you're worried about batteries there are mechanical autowinders available).JRMILLER wrote:Wow, never get lost when wearing that skirt -- at least until the batteries die!

With all that twirling around just to demonstrate the thing I would have thought it sufficient to generate enough power to drive those little lights.
I won't be buying one anytime soon!

Well that's just fine because I don't think they are (or ever were) for sale, but rather just a DIY project. Certainly not for everyone, but I enjoyed itKirbstone wrote:I won't be buying one anytime soon!

Although I imagine she must get sick from spinning around to show it off if she ever wears it out and about.

If you are heading south, rather a lot of twirling would be involved!
