Morning all,
Well, we are told in the UK we can look forward to some fine settled weather for a few days, which will make a change to how things have been recently. Apparently the jetstream has not swung north of the UK, so we've been getting weather systems coming in from the North Atlantic. Not good. Lots of rain. Wet sandals, wet canvas pumps, wet skirts, wet bloody everything!

I've just taken a Sunday stroll into the city centre here in sunny Leicester to post a letter of complaint to the City Council. Long pale-grey denim-type skirt, turquoise t-shirt, and a dry pair of sandals. Very pleasant. There's a music festival here at the moment, and from where I'm sitting right now, in the University, I am looking out over Victoria Park at the campsite, and it looks really nice. I went a few years ago, when Patti Smith headlined, and David Byrne and Emmylou Harris have been previous headliners. No need for me to camp out though, it's virtually on my doorstep, and since it's only a walk across the park from the University, where I work, really convenient. St Etienne (mmmm, Sarah Cracknell!), The Zutons and the Charlatans are among those playing this year. I think Cold Play did it one year, maybe 2001.
I've got a few classical concerts coming up, at De Montfort Hall here, and in November I'm off to see Yes in Birmingham. After over 35 years of being a fan, this may be the last chance I get to see them, but why do they always seem to tour the UK and Europe in the winter? At £35 for a ticket, it's a bit steep, and add travel on to that, and food, t-shirts, beer, food, beer, wine, food, beer, wine, and a tour programme, and it could be a bank-breaker....

Looking forward to the warmer, sunnier weather, and getting back into shorter skirts for work. I guess I'm lucky to have the freedom at work to wear anything I want. Must be something to do with libraries and knowledge and freedom 'n' stuff. OK, it's not exactly rock 'n' roll, but I did turn 50 last month....but I still have my hair!

Looks like being a beautiful day. I hope it's looking that way for you guys too, wherever in the world you are.

Best wishes,
Ash

Still having your hair is an inherited thing I think. My dad had all his yellow blond hair to the last day of his life at 52, so did my mom who had a tiny Elsa Lanchester "Bride of Frankenstein" streak at 84 but otherwise a full head of light brown hair, I'm 67 and still not only have mine but I have no gray in it either, same dark blond as it's always been. My avatar here is from only a couple of months ago. Gray wispy beard and sideburns but no gray higher than my ears. Even my mustache is still dark blond as it's been all my life. I guess the combination of Mom's light brown and Dad's yellow blond gave me my dark blond hair. :hide: :thewave:

It wasn't just hot today; succinctly put, it was "steaming hot". 90+ (F) temperatures and high humidity reading drove the heat index into the low 100s in areas. In short, it was ruddy miserable for man and beast alike. I suspect even reptiles were seeking shelter from the sun.

I made good on my threat to wear a skirt to work; I wore a green tiered skirt (Sapphire's actually; she bought it to wear in St. Patrick's Day, but is nice enough to loan it to me on occasion) and a white, yellow, black, green, and tan Hawaiian shirt. I have full buy-in from Sapphire on this outfit, and can state that imagery captured in Florida from a few years ago verifies that the coordination just works.

The upshot: nothing voiced in the negative and a couple of positive comments. A project manager I work with (a woman) commented (and I have to paraphrase here), "That skirt looks great; I like the whole thing." The chap across the hall from me remarked (again paraphrasing), "I wish I had the stones to wear something like that! It looks very comfortable." So, from direct feedback, I have two "wins" and not a single "lose". My boss (and ex-boss) gave me a few quizzical looks, but once it was apparent that I was the same body underneath the seemingly-strange clothes all that went away.

We're slated for a hotter re-run in the morrow; I'm planning on my black tiered skirt (same pattern as the green one) and another Hawaiian shirt. If the weather pattern persists, I have another tiered skirt that closely matches highlights in yet another Hawaiian shirt that I shall wear on Wednesday -- and so on. I'm waiting for the comment of, "you have more skirts than pants" -- and the observer will be completely correct because I do. And the skirts are infinitely more fun than the pants.

Morning all,
Lovely sunny morning here in the heart of Albion this morning, walked into work through the cemetery as the mist lifts, sunlight glancing through the trees, birds pewed on the branches providing the chorus, khaki cotton skirt, just below the knee, slashed on both sides to just above the knee, letting in the breeze, and a vivid purple tee-shirt!
Pity about the work bit, but everything else seems fine!

Have a good one, wherever you are.

Best wishes,
Ash

It might be hot in some places, on the other side of the cosmos, I ended up on Saturday, in a force 8 gale, in lots of lovely rain, taking my hopelessly overwhelmed tent down to head for a hotel. This was sunny Ullapool. Oh, yes, I was wearing my kilt at the time. Just had to be aware of wind directions and potential for updrafts near objects. Rather refreshing actually.
