Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.

I have the disadvantage of looking jovial and happy though, which will encourage the less brave.

Hi Jeff.
If your going out in a kilt, I can't see the problem. Its a traditional male garment.
Nobody is going to ask to see your birth certificate to check if your from scotland or not. O)
Don't waste time saving for sporrans and stuff, get out there.
Cheers
Jon
Hi Jon!
You're right, I can do without the belt:)
However, the clothes I've already got in no way go with a kilt:shake:
I want to try and pull off the 'Ewen McGregor' look....At the moment I look like 'big goth in a kilt'....Actually I might get away with the goth thing
Hi Jeff
The Goth look is something you can get away with.
I don't know what else floats your boat, but goths wear fishnets as well:drool:
I try to mix up my freestyling and keep em guessing.
As soon as everybody knows you wear skirts from time to time, it becomes a none issue for everyone involved, including yourself.
Its not something you can babystep either. One big step, through the front door, everybody knows - no big deal.
Trust me.
Hi everyone - I'm a new member of the Skirt cafe. I just want to say that I am very glad that I found this place, as I've been looking for some sort of online support for a couple of months and have only found transgender sites, tranvestite sites and stuff like that - which made me feel so left out as, although I really like wearing a skirt - I also happen to like being a man!
Anyhow - I'll leave the rant for another day. Just to repeat - it's good to find this place. BTW - I live in the UK (Bristol). Great place! :cheer:
So - thread topic. I've found denim skirts to be fine. I've only been wearing skirts for a couple of months - I went straight into the wearing outdoors thing - as I refuse to keep any aspect of my life hidden in a closet. Denim is great - and also seems to be fashionable - with decent tights. That's the message I've had from females, anyhow.
Here's two photos of me in a denim skirt that I have worn a lot. . .
Funny enough, I went out yesterday in a black mini - which got a lot more giggles and pointing fingers than I've ever had in the denim. I don't really understand why.

Welcome, Christopher.
One thing about minis is that they will attract attention -- there's no doubt about it. If you're not very secure with yourself a mini (denim or not) is not likely the best place to start public skirting.
Denim, as has been said numerous times, is invisible, mainly because the modern Western mind is absolutely numbed to it; it just doesn't register in the viewer's mind. The same thing applies to knee-length (and slightly above knee-length) skirts on guys, but an out-and-out mini shows too much leg and that's what attracts the eye, even overriding a denim mini.

I am pretty secure with myself. That mainly comes from an *absolute determination* to be true to myself. I will not compromise that for anything. So even though I can feel scared and self-concious when I first go out in a mini - my committment to my own well being carries me through that fear.
I'm a recovering alcoholic - that's where the determination to try to maintain honesty and integrity within my life comes from. So - when I first discovered that I enjoyed wearing a skirt, I made a decision then never to hide it from anyone (mother excepted - she's 94 and simply would not understand . . ).

I like minis. Don't know why. I think they suit me as I am fairly slim.
Anyhow - I've got fabulous legs, crfriend!
Why not show them off?

Hello Christopher J and welcome.
So you wear a skirt sometimes? Ok,I wear one most all the time. and have for a number of years now.Hopefully soon it will be a comon sight to see men in skirts everyday everywhere.
Happy skirtting.
Thanks to those who have made me feel welcome here. It's just so nice. Also - The Satirist - you are now officially my "friend"
I've only been using MySpace for a few weeks - and haven't got the hang of it yet. I'm going to use it as a skirting diary.
Went to a small folk music night tonight in a local pub (bar). Left the denim behind and wore a black leather jacket, stretchy black mini - with grey tights. Now, I can assure all of you that this is the height of fashion at the moment. Honestly!
Mostly young people in there - and after the first shock - which they all hid very well - nobody paid any attention at all to what I weas wearing - so it was really great. I felt totally at ease among that crowd - it was all very relaxed. I'm going to try and hunt out some more little music gigs like that.

Hey ChristopherJ, welcome aboard... hmm, can't think of anything more to say at the moment, so I'll leave it at that :ninjajig:

Hatred is learned, not inherited. Let a little child from Iraq play with a child from the United States, and they will play together without a care in the world. Put the children back in their homes and their parents and the media will teach them hate and prejudice.
Hi Christopher,
Welcome to the Cafe! I like your photos on MySpace - great look and you carry it off very well.

I think that typifies the experience of many of us here. Generally, no-one takes any notice of what you are wearing, or else you just get a few curious initial glances. But that's usually it. Oh - and the compliments! So just carry on and enjoy the skirts!

You don't look 55! You'll have to tell us what soap you use
I love you!
Seriously, I would not recommend my (old) lifestyle as a means of keeping youthful looks. I abused drugs up until the age of 30 - and then I abused alcohol for another 10 years after that. I smoked cigarettes from the age of 15 onwards - that's where I got my vitamins from. Essential minerals, I got from coffee.
If you think I'm joking - well, sadly, I'm not. However, over the last 10 years my life has changed. I don't drink or do drugs these days. I stopped smoking 2 years ago - I eat a fairly healthy diet - and I do some moderate exercise. All right . . . I go shopping - but that's exercise, isn't it?

It's more exercise than I get!!
My girlfriend has hidden the remote for the TV to make me walk across the room to dispose of anything with Graham Norton in it!!
I don't smoke or do drugs even though I am surrounded by them.
I do however hammer the Bacardi at weekends and eat a diet of crazy hot curry.
I like shopping but get really, reallly frustrated when I can't find anything I want after getting out of the car for 17 seconds.
