Me too my friend me too. I like to talk about pleasant things and not political stuff. I find political stuff like watching paint dry.

Re: What's wrong here?!
It's not politics per se, but rather the sleaze and outright lying that gets me riled up.
One of the things I'm extremely tired of is getting lied to -- and it's pretty much universal now that one will be bombarded with outright lies every day that anyone with an IQ larger than their shoe-size can trivially see right through.
Leadership in the US political space desperately needs to be cleaned up -- or at least thoroughly disinfected. There needs to be a focus on ethics and cognisance of what a government is supposed to do. This is already clearly stated in the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States -- to ensure a proper defence and support the common good. It's NOT supposed to be looking out after the Forbes 500 to the exclusion of everybody else.

Re: What's wrong here?!
Just now on this Sainted Green Isle practically every lamp post has a picture of somebody's puss nailed to it, because the coalition in 'power' have just called a general election and voting day is within the next fortnight.
Needless to say the Entire World is holding its breath awaiting the outcome. Truth is, it'll be just a reshuffle of a few names in a field composed of mostly middle-of-the-road people seeking a cushy job and a good pension thereafter.
People vote because it's fun to do and something to get you out of the house, but there'll be no change, that's for sure and the place will bumble along on automatic pilot as usual. Our economy is driven largely by the (mostly American) multinationals which together in the last 30 years dragged the country out of the 3rd world, but to help advancement we need to address the power of the resident NIMBYs.
Biggest issues are way outside : Ukraine, Putin and now Trump. A tiny player like Ireland will have near zero effect on what happens.

I could tell stories about what racism and bigotry did to the men and women of my family for generations, but what for?
Politics in this day and age is exactly this. We, the masses, are this easily played, and it's sad. United, we stand...

Re: What's wrong here?!
I'm just tired of the meanness and ugliness.
I haven't looked at a news clip or article since election day.
Why bother? I already know what's going to happen.
Trump will continue to pit one side of America against the other.
Trump will..... trump.
Tyrants gonna tyrant. *shrugs* oh well...
Personally I think the left should completely stand down and toss all if the power to the right. Give the people exactly what they voted for.
Eliminate public schools
Privatize everything
Eliminate social security and Medicare
Mandated Christian prayer, the government will decide the fate of your soul
Eliminate ALL environmental protections
Eliminate all taxes on the wealthy.
Eliminate speech critical or contrary to those in power
Normalize the population to a uniform standard (no freedom of expression, no leaving your gender lane, no more feminine men or men wearing skirts) under penalty of imprisonment.
Full privatized prisons with a court system stacked to utilize this resource completely.
Eliminate all renewable energy
Complete removal of all federal funding to any state that does not abide the rule of the new regime (but do not eliminate that state's tax obligation to the federal government)
Eliminate elections. Farce elections will be permitted.
Write law the fosters monopolies and eliminates healthy capitalist competition.
Eliminate all labor laws.... ahh yes the good old days, when a coal miner could work along side his 13 year old son, while somehow exiting the mine at the end of his shift owing the company more money than when he went in.
Eliminate all welfare programs. No need to drug test for food stamps when we no longer offer food stamps!
...let's get started.

Re: What's wrong here?!
Already on the way. I've already scuttled my intent on attempting to retire as I do not believe that I'll have Social Security (which has always been a Ponzi scheme) or access to health care. So I'll just have to "suck it up" and work for abusive employers until I drop dead.
Something to look forward to! Woo hoo!

Re: What's wrong here?!
Ha!
Oh yeah, and how could I forget....
When Mother Nature wipes your town off the map, no federal handouts. The locals can handle it.
Why should a tax payer in Ohio subsidize a property owner in Florida, or someone who built their house in the middle of dry woods or a river bank?
That's what insurance is for.
But don't worry... when you lose your home, and can spend a few nights on the street, but homelessness is illegal, so they'll pick you up and place you in one of our state of the art privatized prisons!
Now ya gotta place to live! And they'll even feed you too!
Problem solved! Yeah!

Re: What's wrong here?!
A previous Blair/Brown Labour government managed to bugger up my pension. So I decided there and then that I would work to the end. I do work for myself now so I can’t complain about the management and I decide how hard I work….in theory.

Re: What's wrong here?!
Now I realize many will view my list above as sarcasm...
But the thing is, when I see these extremist post and stickers on trucks, and other commentary, I consider that almost everything on my list was the way of things up until the 20th century.
When I see these obnoxious bumper stickers I know full well that the neocons don't actually want such a society... what they really mean to say is....
"I want a government that functions for me and people like me only"
Everyone beats their chest until life dumps some catastrophe in their laps... then they don't mind paying a visit to the community chest....

What happens, then, when the billionaires have stolen everything in the community chest and there's nothing left. That's where we're getting to in the USA right now.moonshadow wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 8:25 pmEveryone beats their chest until life dumps some catastrophe in their laps... then they don't mind paying a visit to the community chest....

Re: What's wrong here?!
So, What is wrong here?
This is a thread that is under "Skirts and Kilts for Men" - whatever happened to rule 2 of this cafe?
In case anyone needs reminding
Rule 2: ". No politics, unless related to skirts/kilts. No religion, unless related to skirts/kilts. These topics were banned because they lead to endless flame wars."
Can this thread please be closed or at least moved to "Off Topic".

To be fair, the thread started by a moderator as to the reason he was found to be wearing trousers.....So the thread is about things getting in the way of skirt wearing.....

Sorry Moon, since you are neither Moderator or originator, you don't have that decision.
You can forward reasons in precisely the same way as anyone else.
