Re: New Adventure begins
The living situation is much more tolerable now that we're in a better site.
It's still not what I'd call a "large site", but it's a hundred times better than what we had. At least we can fully extend our awning and host friends (as you can see).
It'll do.
Kinda wondering when it's going to warm up a bit. It's been in the 50's for weeks now with no signs of warming up at all in the extended forecast. I know after mid May, I'm used to having the air conditioner on full blown. Shoot... we're still running the heat at night!
I chuckled to myself when I wondered if the PNW natives have ever had "a good sweat"? I ain't talking about the one you get at the gym on Wednesdays... no... I'm talking about a "digging post holes in the southern July sun in an open field all day, when you drink 5 gallons of water and don't pee a single time.... kind of sweat...?"
I'll bet nobody here as ever just let out a sigh, wiped the sweat off their brow, and muttered a "damn it's hot today!".
They don't seem to get much snow in the winter either. Had a couple stay at the park for a month a while back... from Ohio. Standing with my neighbors as we sized them up, I pointed at the rust under their car... "yep, they're legit easterners". Don't see a lot of rust buckets up here.

Looks like a much better place. I hope you can feel a bit more settled for the rest of your time there.

Re: New Adventure begins
Moon and I fly to Virginia tomorrow morning for our first time.
Rufus got boarded around 4pm at the dog kennels and let me tell you I cried. Tell me you love your dog without telling me.
We will update you guys once we land and get situated.

Some winters here we have genuine winter snow storms...leading to lots of snow, icy roads....
Typically, we have definite summer weather in June. Hottest/dry-ist time of year is late July/early August. Summer usually starts to wind down in late August, with the seasonal transition in mid/late September. Early September is usually the last gasp of summer, though last year summer faded out in late August.

Thanks, Elisabetta, Andrea. Good to finally meet.
We met in the parking lot of a Denny's. To help them find/identify me, I wore a bright red Macabi. Andrea wore a Macabi too.

It occurred to me that some members may not be familiar with the Denny's franchise.

Re: New Adventure begins
Moon and I retired the RV living in a camper. Our camper is officially being used for weekly camping trips.
We're officially renting a beautiful Duplex in the same area just up the road from where we're currently at. It's a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath. After having two incidents that took place at the RV which I can't speak openly about in the physical part of the forums we decided for my safety to get us into a permanent home. The landlord is pretty chill and pretty much let's you do your own thing provided you cause him no issues with the law and etc. Anyone knowing us knows we're great people so no issue there.
We should be pulling out of the campground this Saturday if all goes well. We have a coworker and friend with 20 acres who will be storaging our camper on his property.
We've already begun to make this place a home. We have plenty of room now and Rufus has a backyard to play in.
We're beyond excited!

Re: New Adventure begins
That is fantastic news. I am glad you guys are at least getting into a bigger more permanent situation.
Sorry to hear about your need for safety. PM me if you wish, with what happened as it worries me that you were in danger.

This is truly wonderful news, and I'm happy for you two -- and Rufus. If threats start flying, the best bet is to simply relocate because the nastiness will continue. Even if it never comes to fruition, it's a distraction you do not need.Elisabetta wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 5:16 pmWe've already begun to make this place a home. Re: New Adventure begins
I don't think there was any danger of physical harm.
In a nutshell, we basically crossed up with a "Karen".
My old naive country boy ass just isn't used to this new metropolitan lifestyle.
It's okay though... lesson learned.
So far, at the new place nobody has bothered to introduce themselves.... and we are VERY MUCH OKAY with that!
We'll be polite, but we're really just want to keep to ourselves henceforth.
In the past, every. single. time (yes even in Virginia), we'd let a new friend into our world, it ALWAYS ended badly. That's why I've often told Liz, when we'd sometimes discuss the lack of company we had at our old house... "friends = drama".
For ten years I've been wearing skirts, and people left me alone back east. I think they thought "they might catch the gay" or something... I don't know, I just know everyone seemed to shy away from us.... and life was good. My wife and I just did our own thing year after year.
Then we come to the left coast where people aren't as afraid of "different people", and generally more tolerant. It's made us "interesting" and has drawn people into our world. However, under those skirts is just an ordinary old southern white boy... and I think that's where part of the problems sprouted.
Thus, it's somewhat ironic that only since coming to a more tolerant area have I had the notion to just dress normal. My wife and I both agree that [for a while anyway] I'm just going to "be normal". I don't want my new neighbors pestering my wife as to whether I'm transitioning, or asking me "why do I do this?" Or gossiping behind our backs.
If people can't see that there's more to me than the clothes I wear, then I don't want them in my life.
But yeah, I think my wife and I will enjoy our time a lot more if we're allowed to just keep to ourselves and be left alone.
This has been interesting, and has resulted in my having to recalibrate my personality somewhat. At one time it had reduced my overall faith in humanity, but I snapped out if that and simply resolved that... "people are going to be people". There really isn't much difference in people, regardless of what color state they might reside.
I realize I expect too much from society. I forget our species is one of monkey brains that somehow (probably by accident) harnessed fire and came up with the idea of a wheel.
Realistic expectations.

Sorry to hear about "The Karen" you ran into. They can be a witch with a capital "B".
Main thing is, you two are SAFE
If you ever visit 'Youtube', check out 'Redwheel'. Interesting(often times funny) how
people solve their "Karen" problems.
Having never physically met - I still think of you as 'my kids'
