HOW MANY SKIRTS DO YOU OWN?

Discussion of fashion elements and looks that are traditionally considered somewhat "femme" but are presented in a masculine context. This is NOT about transvestism or crossdressing.

Long memory? :D

...Or maybe Skip is simply using the ample historical records left by the Romans. We have a pretty good idea of how the men at that time dressed, at least in Roman dominated areas.

Have fun,

Er ... over 900! and over 500 dresses. In my defence, I have been buying them for 30 years and I spend most of my time in them.

Do you never watch any Biblical movies? Like maybe Exodus, Samson and Delilah, Ben Hur or Barabbus??? All of which are replete with men in light weight colorful kilts (Yul Brynners version of PHARAOH who wouldn't "Let MOSES or his people go" in Exodus) normal skirted garments Barabbus and friends (prior to his being switched for Jesus) on the cross, Jesus' garb in Ben Hur where he gave water to Charlton Heston's character, etc. etc. etc.
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

I have seen films with such titles, but none of them were made 2000 years ago.

To know whether Jesus & co looked masculine to their entourage, we would have to know just what ancient peoples perceived as masculine. Who knows? Perhaps they were not so hung up about these questions s some western men appear to be today.

At last count, I've got 10 skirts and 2 Utilikilts. In the skirt department, 3 blue denim anywhere from ankle length to the mini, 3 black, and 4 tan/khaki. The 2 UKs are black and tan, in what they call the Neo-traditional style. My favorite skirts are the ankle length denim, the mini, and a tan one that comes about 3" below the knee. The total number of skirts and kilts is subject to change, depending on what I see at thrift shops! All of my skirts cost anywhere from $3 - $9 depending on the store... not bad at all! :)

Probably too many, but if one only wears skirts, then different ones get assigned different uses. Stretch denim one for instance good for on roof doing painting etc. Not restrictive, but covers knees.
Good to have a variety of good on the street ones, so I have three colours of the side pocket tailored ones, excellent khaki cotton one and older corduroy and denim ones. The latter have been getting a rest this year, and the blue tailored has just been resurrected to give the khaki one a rest! I certainly get really good use out of my skirts.

I have around 14 skirts from the "other side", two mens skirts, two sarongs and two kilts. The mens skirts are both ankle length and are rarely used. The main body of skirts are almost all knee length or slightly higher. Most of my skirts were bought in a flurry in the late 1990s when I got into skirts but I have bought two or three recently which I wear a lot.

24 skirts of various lengths, from mini to midi. My best friends wife gave me her daughters skirts, her daughter won't be caught dead in a skirt anymore. They fit me fine, and that nearly doubles the quantity of skirts I have. I now have more skirts than pants, which is fine with me as I don't think I will be wearing pants very often anymore.

I currently have exactly 3 skirts, all fairly short at 12-15", and one skirted 34" tunic dress. They were all female garments and were bought on eBay. As a university student, my budget is far too limitted to be going after expensive men's skirts and kilts :(. Although since I am on winter break right now, I might take to sewing up a couple custom skirts for myself.

There is a great deal to be said for making your own. You get final say in how you want it to look, and you get to set the fit precisely to yourself. There's also a good sense of accomplishment once one gets out and about in one's own creations. Good luck!

Skirts I own and use fairly regularly (say several times a week)

1 Kilt (my own tartan and the longest skirt) - always has :thumleft: :thumright: :D comments
2 a 20" Khaki cargo skirt with "fake" pleats - load of pockets - positive :thumright: comments with this one
3 a 17" Khaki cargo sjirt with two large side pockets - small splits at sides make it ideal for cycling.
4 a 14" black cargo skirt with two deep side pockets
5 a 13" denim "cut-off" look mini-skirt (see under Pics/Looks) - generally had :thumright: comments
6 a 12" camouflage mini-skirt - I tried this on the buike and realised that exposure  was a problem so it HAS to be worn with tights. :)
7 an 11" black denim micro-skirt which on the few occasions I have worn goes well with 60 denier black tights - this is my shortest one.

Oh, 10 or so above knee skirts
2 knee/below knee
1 lovely short (not quite mini) light green stretch denim. 8)
1 dress - but it fits really well.
Skirts all size 14 (but 12 at a push) but dress is 20 - for the shoulders.

I understand that the conversation doesn't revolve around other garments, really, but a good blouse (not shirt) makes the skirt or dress. They were designed to go together, after all. :!:
