Just have to re-inforce these tips for a pain free life.
I run an old £50 PC. Don't use any anti virus software. Never, ever, had a virus on the computer. Used to get the odd Bot, but now never get those either. While everyone around me is taking their PC to the menders every few months I type on oblivious.
Here's my recipe for computing....
Use a program called Mailwasher (if you can still find it) to screen all emails.
Use Firefox for browsing, never ever use Internet Explorer. Firefox is pretty Bot proof, and stops pop-ups too.
Use Zone alarm, a free firewall that works well.
Have a check now and then for Bots using AdAware, another free program.
I'm suspicious of Anti virus software, having seen countless people having problems with them. No doubt some people find them good.
I'll stick with my system though. Plus I'm using windows 98SE and not getting any problems either. It does everything I want it to do.
Good luck!

Me too! Problems are very rare. In fact I think I have only had one moderatelyy serious (but solveable) OS problem in the last 8 years or so that I've used it.Plus I'm using windows 98SE and not getting any problems either.
I also still use Netscape 4 sometimes. Don't know why. Nostalgia really. But like you I use Firefox for my main browser - I also use Mailwasher + Zone Alarm, AVG Anti-virus and the odd Adaware check - Oh - and I never ever open a mail attachment unless it was from a friend and I was expecting it.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood . . .

It would appear that the undesireable types are more interested in spamming
jamming provirus the latest newest platforms i.e. Vista XP. And leaving the
older first generation platforms alone since there is limited opportunity to
create mayhem. After all why infect a few when much more damage can be
done to many.

WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !
