Gut-Fitting Kilts Annoying
Gut-Fitting Kilts Annoying
It is such a pity that even modern kilts are often made to fit around the gut, unlike modern trousers (pants). My wife assures me that this fitting position is the official "waist" but it seems like gut to me. I know from watching period movies that trousers used to fit this way 200 to 300 years ago. I've heard say that Utilikilts fit the modern way, but the modern kilts I have bought in the UK do not.
I get rare relief from this feature when I am on my own and swap out the kilt for a skirt.

Generally speaking, the natural waist is defined as the narrowest part of the torso when looked at from the front, and this usually occurs roughly around, or just below, the navel. This, of course, to guys, means "gut level" because we're used to wearing our rather modern garb closer to our hips. The precise "point" of the waist varies from person to person, so what might be *your* waist may well not be mine, so a bit of tailoring will be involved to make any garment fit an individual perfectly.skirttron wrote:It is such a pity that even modern kilts are often made to fit around the gut, unlike modern trousers (pants). I'll agree, though, that I'm certainly not used to having a tight-fitting band (e.g. a belt or a tight waistband) right at my waist; I prefer to have them a bit lower, about halfway from my "natural waist" to my hips.
The garments on offer in the UK may be more closely tailored to the "traditional" kilt than anything really modern (and, to be perfectly honest, the "little kilt" is a modern garment, although "old" in a modern sense) due to regional taste/prejudice. I suppose the upshot of the thing might be that if you really want something badly enough, you might just have to custom make it yourself.skirttron wrote: I've heard say that Utilikilts fit the modern way, but the modern kilts I have bought in the UK do not.

I like the gut-fitting of the kilt, when wearing something bifurcated, i.e. a trouser, a pant or pair thereof (see the relevent thread) I find the 'waistband' annoying because my gut hangs over it, pushing it downwards all the time. I think this looks bad and feels bad. Skirts give you the option, but you either have to have them at trouser height under the gut, or on the gut, or sliding down the taper of the gut. At least the trad kilt clings happily to the gut minimising the overhang due to the liking of beer.
Being fat isn't all it's cracked up to be! hopefully one day my feeble attempts at weight loss will succeed.

I prefer to have anything I wear on my lower half to hang around the hips, which to me is my "waist." Of course, there is the possibility that I would wear a skirted garment at the natural waist, if I found one that was comfortable enough, so I won't leave out the option. Luckily I only have a minimal gut, which come summertime I plan on removing through various types of exercises, sports, and physically active video games (such as Dance Dance Revolution). Sitting at a computer 10 hours a day just doesn't do you any good for energy levels or physical fitness, both of which I want to improve.

Hatred is learned, not inherited. Let a little child from Iraq play with a child from the United States, and they will play together without a care in the world. Put the children back in their homes and their parents and the media will teach them hate and prejudice.

Me too Sashi - Having hit the exercise classes big time, including aerobics where I'm the only male in the class (do I care?, I do not!), for the last few months, I can proudly boast to have trimmed a whole 2 inches off my gut. With this new sylph-like figure I am sure I need a hip-fitting kilt too. Anyway, if the gut hangs over, all well and good - I suppose it makes up for having no cleavage to show off.Sashi wrote: Sitting at a computer 10 hours a day just doesn't do you any good for energy levels or physical fitness, both of which I want to improve.
