Wear Wouldn't You Wear A Skirt?

Post by ziggy_encaoua »

Not so long ago I had to go to Fratton (a surburb near Portsmouth) anyways I was advised that if I wore a kaftan as often I do I must take a taxi rather then walk from the rail station (to the place I was going). I said there was no need etc I was able to walk but no I was advised even stronger. I did take a taxi & as we drove thorough the streets I could see why I was advised not to wear a kaftan or take a taxi Fatton is a rather grim place with people constantly & sounded well pissed off.

Anyways here's the question where wouldn't you wear a skirt or excercise MFF?

Hello Ziggy:

About the only place I do not wear my skirts or kilts is when riding my motorcycle. And at work because the only thing allowed is long pants.
I have worn skirts and kilts at biker bars and motorcycle rallies with out any problems. also all over the USA with out any problems. I just do it. In the roughest places I think they just think I must be the meanest SOB in the valley because they don't give me any problems.

1. Up a ladder.
2. At a funeral, and
3. For an interview for a job - unless the job was something where it wouldn't be an issue.

Other than that, the fact that you are confident enough to wear a skirt - and providing you accompany it with a totally masculine look - you can do it pretty well anywhere you like. If anything, people see your terrific confidence and non-conformity and that can actually make you seem like a real tough cookie who's not to be messed with.

They wouldn’t see me as a real tough cookie. They just think I must be crazy enough to do anything so they stay away. At least that’s what I think. LOL

testosterone zones...

Post by r1g0r »

aside from the previously mentioned situations, i would avoid the places i call "testosterone zones". bars, auto parts stores, any place more likely to be purely populated by guys who have some latent need to "compete" with each other.

i may be crazy, but momma didn't raise no stoopid chillun's!

here where i live, it's a combination of the bible belt and the "great american wilderness". any guy you see is just as likely to be carrying SOME form of weapon, and in crowds...

just my personal opinion/situation.
you know... george orwell warned us!

Ziggy - it's not the "disrespectful" bit that would worry me. At a funeral, the focus should be on the deceased. Nothing should detract from that and nothing should be done that might antagonise others who may be suffering a recent loss.

My skirt-wearing is something I do to be comfortable, because I like the look and feel, and because I revel in non-conformity and individualism. At a funeral, however, I'd want to put all that on hold - just for an hour or two.

Can someone change "wear wouldn't you wear" to "where wouldn't you wear" please!! It's driving me bananas, like the heading that said something like "why are the so comphy" ( He meant, I think, why are THEY so COMFY) for ages! Let's please have some pride in this forum at least on headings which the general public sees.. and let people know we can at least spel evrydaye wurds!

Unfortunately most places...

1) My clinic when seeing patients - they need to focus on their issues not my clothing choices
2) Church
3) Picking up family from school where they would be subjected to teasing from their peers
4) Out with my family because they are worried that I will be negatively judged by the community and they will have to justify my actions to neighbours, relatives, acquaintences and other nameless nobodies
5) When giving a seminar or somewhere where they expect me to look a certain way
6) Most seminars and training courses (except with fellow naturopaths who are very accepting of health issues)
7) When shopping in case I am seen (see point 4)

In fact the only places now I skirt is at home, in the car, around the clinic when there are no patients, when shopping alone or when going for long mediatative walks along the beach, on vacations and other places where the risk of being judged is very low.

Pretty sad isn't it, the power that I give to the community to judge me and tell me what I should wear

I don't think you're by any means alone with this aspect! "Immediate family" seem to crop up so often as 'limiting factors'! As far as I aware, everyone in my immediate neighbourhood knows (and has seen) that I wear kilts/skirts, 'out and about'. Surprisingly(?), I've never had an adverse comment from anyone - to date! Yet my 'other half' seem almost paranoid that 'someone might see me', wearing such a garment. Again, I'm surprised no-one has gone out of their way to tell her! So, when we are out together, my (only pair of) tr*users are grudgingly dragged on - it's called compromise. I cannot comment on religious considerations as I only know one practising Christian (she's a supporter!) and one Muslim (and he's my dentist!).

When I'm abroad, it's dependant on getting the 'feel' for an area before relinquishing bi-furcation. I've worn skirts in cities such as Amsterdam, Dublin and Linz, but more usually in the country areas. The only direct comment was in Amsterdam, "You must be English!!!" In Austria this autumn, I ended up with no alternative, pending repairs to said garment, as I'd only packed a long (cargo) skirt in addition. (Memo to self: pack 1 short/1 long next time - ever tried getting on/off trains in a long skirt, where country 'platforms' are little more than rail-height? :naughty: ).

One thing I'd say is the more exceptions any guy who wants to express fashion freedom etc not do so the less likely fashion freedom will be taken seriously or seen as normal. I always thought part of our mission was to make it more normal for guys to wear a skirt & not be counted as some trannyfreak etc.

Kilt!everywhwer.

Post by Tripp49 »

Hey Stu,Davereporter,and all.
I weare a kilt anytime I am dressing casual,or Sunday best.I wear a kilt to churck every Sunday,I wear them to funerals,as well as weddings.I almost never wear pants when not at work.
I have worn a kilt to the auto parts store's and "REDNECK" bars and never aproblem.

YOU SHOULD WEAR A KILT ANYWHERE YOU WOULD WEAR YOUR SUNDAY BEST.A kilt is just a choice in clothes. You should not think twice as to where to wear a kilt.
If you have to stop and think what others think about your attire you are not free.

To hell with with that committie of they.

Be free!
