I fell in love with SilliKilts!
I'm not here to read and play yet but just popped in because I found a gorgeous kilt online and the Cafe came to mind. Dunno if it is a look anybody here likes but the fabric sure had me smiling. Green Dragon Brocade SilliKilt
The woman who makes these has other colors for sale and the blue fuzzy zebra print sure got my attention. Her advertising slogan about being for those for whom "taste is no object" sure fits me! :p I mentioned my find to Quiet Man and he quickly let me know NOT to buy one for him. Luckily I know the difference between something looking good and something looking good on him. Big difference in this case. Bet it would be fun to know the kind of guy that can carry it off though. There are a bunch of other fabric colors she works with too.

Hi Skirt Chaser!
I went and looked at those fabric's. Sure do look interesting, wearing one of them would be really interesting. I have no idea how to match a brocade with anything.
I've gotten pretty good at mixing solid color UK's and Tommy Bahama's print's but those are pretty tame, in comparsion.
As with most anything you wear if it looks good, and your happy and feel good you'll radiate that and most people will accept you.
Since I do not hang out at club's I have no idea where to wear something like that.

Runzwithscissors here!
Thank you all for your lovely comments! One of your members pointed me in your direction...You've discovered me! http://runzwithscissors.net/SilliKilts- ... Slips.html
As to where to wear these -- well, it's up to you! I've always liked kilts ( my father occasionally wore one), but I came to the idea of bright colored kilts through Burningman http://burningman.com/
Many of the manly men there love to wear skirts at the event, and related events, although the vast majority of them woud not wear them as regular wear on the street. Except for few of my friends in LA and SF (hetero guys, I might add).
Many men at Burningman wear Utilikilts -- I saw my first one in 2000...and those indeed are wonderful. But they've become the uniform of those who want to feel safe in a costume, and so, in my inimitable way, I've reacted to the sea of Utilikits you see there! http://www.wildlupin.com/bm03kilts.jpg
Hence the birth of SilliKilts (TM) in my waggish mind! And my first orders were from a happily married burner -- custom fabrics he chose. And they were wonderful! That broadened my own concept -- to include beautiful and furry along with the ridiculous!
As I say on my Etsy pages -- each is custom-made to your waist & length measurements, and to the fabric you choose.
I love a man in a kilt! :cheer:

Hmmm...made to fit
Kind of like the comfort of a Spartan. Ok, apron wrap to the right? Is it extra for the belt loops? Dry-clean only? Details, details...

Well, they wrap whichever you wish. The first one I made (the zebra faux fur) accidently wrapped the wrong way. Don't worry, that was for a customer, and the rest will wrap the right way! I guess I should add that in the listing description -- Thanks for the heads-up!
Velboa faux fur is washable.
I would dry-clean the brocade , to keep the sheen and texture.
Belt loops are included, but can be omitted if you like (look at the brocade ones).
What's a Spartan?

Duh (I had to think a little about "UK") but I got it. And now I remeber that they have something called a Spartan...they're all pretty similar, as I recall.
The snaps have a heavy, fused facing/backing on them when they're on single-thickness material. I have no idea how well they'll hold up over time, since I've just started making them. I would imagine they'd hold up pretty well if they were not abused
But I will say that the brocade IS considered a fancy/evening fabric...it is pretty heavy, though, and if people can make pillow covers for their couches, or jackets, the kilts should stand up.
I've thought about scotch-garding them. It's always a good idea...but it does come off with dry-cleaning.
