Do Towns Get Used to Skirtmen?

Post by skirttron »

I ask the question in the title because in my spare time I mostly wear one of my modern or tartan kilts with no pretence towards traditional style. At first, I seemed to attract an average of 2 comments per outing, but comments are now rare. I wonder how long it takes before the locals get used to seeing us around unbifurcated. These are quite large towns - tens or hundreds of thousands plus lots of visitors. Or is it that my own attitude has become more confident, I wonder? In any case, I have noticed that shopkeepers, etc, are much more likely to remember you from one visit to the next than if you wore pants (trousers).

after one day in Vegas, NO ONE said a thing other than compliments and 99% never even noticed I wasn't wearing trousers at all. Even the oldest COWBOY there, Doyle Brunson, (world famous poker player and twice winner of the main event) had a 20 minute conversation with me about bariatric surgery, (which he had), looked twice at my skirt and never said anything at all about it. :)
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Probably! At our local store, all of the staff know (& see) I wear skirts. One (my age - went to school with her!) always endeavours to 'check out' whether I am skirted (!) - none of them (to date) have ever commented, nor have fellow customers/neighbours. Yet my wife is so paranoid that someone might see me wearing a skirt!!! What is it about SOs? Her sisters/best friend are totally supportive - their active encouragement has been much appreciated in my 'quest for comfort'.

The only skirts I've worn around my town in a very public manner, i.e. in-and-out of shops, up-and-down the streets, are my kilts.

While I have had favorable comments from men and women, I have not received any unfavorable comments that I know of.
I was asked once where my skirt was, when I was seen in pants.
More often than not, I get asked why I'm wearing shoes/sandals, since most everyone knows me as, 'that guy who runs barefoot!'.

It's week number two, or so, at the local college and so far I've only worn skirts to class.
I have felt no eyes boring holes into my head... or butt... and have not heard a single comment, good or bad, about the skirts.

I have worn my City Skirt (NOW A COLLECTOR'S ITEM! ), UK, Mountain Kilt, Sweetwater Kilt, KMart cargo skirt and a skirt made out of a pair of hiking shorts.

Life has been grand in the skirt-wearing world for me!

I tried everything in Vegas to get a reaction. I even wore a short skirt with heels! Keep in mind while on vacation I do not shave my face. So there I am traversing the strip in a short denim mini, 4" wedge heels and an impressive beard. My conclusion is; Vegas is numb to outrageous fashion from any gender!

I have attached a "typical" outfit from vegas.

I lived in Vegas and went out in my skirts with very few reactions, in the casinos I seemed to get the least atention wearing a skirt. Now I live in northern Nevada in cowboy country, I get some looks and had one coment. One woman said "your wearing a dress" and I replied its a skirt. No other coments we went on with our conversation.
