Private AOL Chat room
I wonder if Stu and or Merlin have AOL? I could open one for men in skirts and leave it open all the time. By the way, just in case no one knows a neato fact of internet life these days, by joining AOL by telephone, having an internet access already and not needing AOL for internet access you can get AOL for free. You only need to bring your own access and never call in for technical support. You can get technical support at AOL at a dozen "help" chat rooms in the public area or by emailing your questions in if you have any and all this is free. Along with free AOL comes free McAfee Anti-virus, free firewall, free spam filter, free parental controls, free chat rooms, and just about anything you can get at all the places like Vonnage that you still bring your own broadband connection to and pay for. At AOL everything Vonnage offers is free instead of $9.95 or more a month. As soon as I find the free 800 number to call them I'll post it in this thread.
About 3 months ago, AOL decided to accept popup ads (which can be easily blocked) to pay for any member that wants AOL free in the hopes that the popup ad companies spend more than enough money for their ads and the members needn't spend a thin dime to use all of AOL's services.
The real trick to get AOL free is, after you call the Join AOL number, you listen closely to the person on the other end, IF he/she has an India Indian accent they will set you up for free AOL. If an USA rep answers, hang up and call again. The USA reps are not cleared to offer free AOL but the reps in India are. Just agree with everything they ask for within reason and you can get it for free. I think having a chat room we can go to and chat directly with each other like a conversation instead of wondering if or when your posts will be read would be a good addition to what we already have.
I've opened a members chat room in the "Mature Interests" section on AOL that I'll leave open all the time I can. The title of the room is "Men in Skirts". Any members of SkirtCafe that have or are considering getting the free AOL We can perhaps agree on a time every day that most of us can come in and chat. I'm more nocturnal than most so I can be there in name only all the time. People on the new list can join the chat anytime they please. I think spirited discussions like the one Merlin and Stu are now having might be lots more fun in a chatroom than in a forum. Just a thought. Lots of forums also have chat rooms.

Interesting idea, but I think our discussion on nakedness in public has been getting a bit off topic anyway.
I used to be a subscriber to AOL - but never again. I found them expensive compared to other service providers and their discussion rooms were heavily moderated, usually by ignorant, control-freak moderators. I was put on a "warning" by them for daring to liken late-term abortion to child killing - so I told them where they could shove their service, and cancelled my contract. Freedom of expression is a precious right, even if others are upset by what you say.

I'm afraid having been 'ripped off' by AOL in the past, I wouldn't really trust them ever again. Thanks for the idea, mind.
Yea, Stu, I think I've also had enough of nakedness for now (although enjoyed the discussion, of course!). I even 'cover all the mirrors'/'wear a blindfold in the bath', as I'm far too ashamed of the current state of my body to risk even my sight of it!!!!!!!!!

Aol Now
no contracts, no fee, unless you don't have other service, and absolutely NO moderators in member rooms. Whatever service you're now using to access the internet will continue to get you online and with that, you can use all the good features of AOL for free. In member rooms, there never WERE moderators anyway. Called "Hosts" or "Guides" by AOL. I was both Host Help Skip and Guide PKS for 5 years and NEVER blocked anyones chat unless they were either scrolling page after page, cursing everyone in the room or using heavy racist remarks. If they were doing that, I STILL didn't block their chat, I just closed the room.
It might be worth your time checking it out, after all it is actually free now when you bring your own access. The ONLY thing you lose is telephone technical support. Everything else is free including a free web site. There are no more Moderators/Guides or Host Helps..the only way you can be reported now for a Terms Of Service = TOS violation is if another member sends in a paste of what you said by clicking "Notify AOL". And then AOL checks out the reporter's record before checking out the reportee's record. Takes a lot these days to convince Steve Case that getting rid of ANY prospective customers is a good idea. So AOL is pretty much wide open now, unlike 2 or 3 years ago.
