New to the cafe

Post by Snorky »

Hello all

I've been lurking for some time but decided to join today!

I'm a straight guy who's been skirting for some time now (15 years) and publicly for 5 years (clubbing bars etc).

Do any of you feel you have to choose your areas for skirting carefully? I'v occasionally go to Brighton as being the UK's gay capital they should be skirt friendly too! Well even in that town I have tomchoose my destinations carefully as it seems over run by chavs. If go to the right cliubs then its great and women generally seem to respond so positively to my choice of clothes. I must admit I lean more towards the crossdressing side of skirt wearing and the skirts I go for are generally full/ feminine etc. Having said that, the reasons and principles to drsssing up are very similar to many of yours. Basically, I want to wear clothes that make me feel good especially in the summer.

Well I've made a few trips to the south cost this year in skirts and had no adverse comments...yet. people look, people smile and thats fine with me.

No point to this post really other than to say hello.

Snorky

here's a pic of me on the beach.

Hi Snorky (now there's a name that's a blast from childhood past......"Bananasplits", right?!).
A good point about choosing the right areas to goto.....But in this day & age, trouble turns up pretty much anywhere.
I'm more of a kilt fan myself, and have worn one in all kinds of areas around London. I think the bottom line is just to get out there and be yourself....The only way you'll be able to suss the good / bad areas is either if they blatantly obvious or just by going there trial & error style. Have you done central London yet? The thing about that place is that it is mainly filled with tourists, so to them, everything is different to what they expect in their own countries......So, I think you would be relatively safe.:)

Hi Snorky....Although Im from Scotland and wear Tradiotional tartan kilts plus the usual accessories I know what you mean about Brighton. Ive been there myself and found that there are great contrasts in acceptance values for guys in kilts or skirts. Personally Im straight and just like kilts but I spoke to lots of gay guys which I dont have a problem with at all and found they were very complimentary about my kilt. Most of them just stopped me in the street and wanted to chat about it.
I was in Eastbourne if its any help and found it to be very kilt friendly at least for me. My father in law had suffered a heart attack on holiday and we had to go down last September. The nurses at the hospital seemed more intrested in me in my kilt than the patients! Not true they were magnificent but you get my meaning. Kilts are like magnets to women partly I think because they have a better tolerance to fashion change and like to see men try something different. OK mine are accepted male dress and the old whats worn with it also seems to fascinate because of the old thing about the true Scot. I ended up wearing my kilt most times I visited the hospital and also most days in town with no adverse reactions from young or old, male or female. Give it a try if your near there. All the best.

Greetings!

I cannot correlate homosexuals with being particularly 'skirt friendly', I'm afraid. Rather the opposite! Has Brighton now claimed 'top spot'? Our local friends who are of that disposition reckon it's still Manchester!

As for where & when, the more 'urban', the more likelyhood of potential problems. I suspect this is where the UK/Europe & USA may be on opposite sides, culturally?

Merlin .....I didnt infer intentionally that they were skirt friendly in that sense, only that they wanted to ask about the outfit in general and were we on holiday and so on.As for whats top spot for the gay community Ive no earthly idea where it is. I only know that walking round the place and in and out of shops etc attracted no hostile remarks.

No, I didn't think you did! I was actually replying to Snorky's original posting. Sorry, I should have made that clear!

WELCOME TO THE CAFE!!!! That's a very nice picture but your face seems hard to make out, camera trouble? This site doesn't get many internet spam trolls like some sites do. If you are indeed a public skirter, you probably won't have any problems by showing your face on here. Check out our gallery or my avatar at the World Series Of Poker week before last. Skirted, happy and popular. Lots and lots of positive comments, mostly by the "fair sex" but a few by jealous and sweaty men because of the obvious coolness of a skirt compared to their hot, sweaty trousers. :scratchchin:  :whiteflag

Welcome to the cafe Snorky and happy skirt wearing. I wear my kilts completely openly with t-shirts, sandals, etc. I find it is your attitude that counts - once you feel completely normal you will generally be treated as such.
The only places I avoid are rough areas where I feel the average IQ in a quarter-mile radius might fall below 110.

Wow what a great response thanks for replying everyone. I think Skirtron hit the nail on the head - you have to have a confident attitude and an air of 'could'nt give a damn what you think' attitude. As usual it's teenagers, chavs and rude boys who are most likely to give hassle - usually at a distance and under a pack mentality. It the great responses from the ladies that puts those negatives in perspective.

Welcome to the Caff, Snorky!
What are 'chavs' and why do they occur in Brighton?
Thanks,

I also wondered what "chavs" were, but didn't want to appear stupid to you blokes across the pond. :)

Chavs is a recent term here in the UK to describe groups of youths who are often uneducated, dress a certain way (hooded sport tops, gold jewelery, branded trainers etc) have a particularly bad attitude and no prospects in life. I suppose the equivalent of trailerpark trash?
