Why did I bother

Post by mushroom »

After reading some posts on here, I decided to go out and see if i could get some reaction. The options were varied, as I have a kilt from midas as well as a jean skirt from the same company. I also have a couple of skirts that I have aquired from second hand stores. I have recently purchased 2 dresses from a local second hand store, both of which I feel very comfortable in.
On a whim I decided to go conservative as I am new to the area and didn't want to make any waves of great significance. With that in mind I donned my midas kilt and ventured into what I thought would be a great adventure..... Not so... I went into a liqour store in a small town nearby thinking that I could get some reaction but alas I was sadly dissappointed. The woman at the checkout didin't even acknowledge by attire.
I then went on to a gas bar nearby and hoping to get some reaction (as it was self serve) I put some gas in and deleiberately did it rather slowoly thinking that maybe I would get a reaction from either a customer or an attendant. Nope, nothing... not even a smile.Oh well... I guess I shoulda gone with my first instinct. Put on a dress and see what that inspires. next time
It's MY skirt... and I'll wear it anywhre I please... thank you

Retirees that are in their 70's and 80's are mostly still polarized by gender affirmed clothing choices. At a Retirement Home you "might" get an adverse reaction, then again, they might just ignore you, and I guess that would upset you even more than your recent outing did. :) Personally, I don't mind being ignored. But do whatever flips your skirt up. :)

Interestingly, the best reactions I've had to my skirting have been from women well into their "retirement" years. Without exception, the comments I've gotten from these "elder gals" have been positive, if not outright effusive. The ones I've dealt with all seem to be first intrigued by the notion of a bloke in a skirt, and, once chatted up, wholeheartedly supportive. I can't talk to the "elder bloke" end because I haven't interacted with enough to draw a conclusion.

In short, I'd not dismiss what our elders might think -- they can be a surprisingly practical bunch.

Not dismissing anyone

Oddly enough the nearly "only" adverse reactions I've had while skirting in public were from definitely elderly men at Bingo. I don't mean just gray hair, I mean guys I knew for sure were in their 80's or 90's...I just patronized them tho, they only have so much time left, let them enjoy it. Statements like "You're wearing a skirt!!" To which I replied, "Yes sir, I am". to which they replied, "but skirts are for women only"... To which I replied, "Yes Sir. Thank you Sir". and walked away...I feel if they are upset by seeing me in a skirt then I get away from them as quickly as I can to avoid upsetting them further. I've had lots of positive reactions from elderly ladies too. Mostly they say things like "What a good idea for a man" or "I bet that's lots more comfortable for you than tr*users", to which I heartily agree with. :)
