The Pitfalls of Summer Skirting
The Pitfalls of Summer Skirting
Hi all,
Yippee! the sun is shining, it's the cricket season and the World Cup is about to start. Otherwise known as the silly season, as you will discover by reading on.......
The warm weather prompted me into wearing a light-weight black linen skirt, calf length yesterday (Saturday) with a plain red t-shirt and flip-flops. I had to go out to the shop at one point in the afternoon and it was only on my return, catching sight of myself in a shop window I realised that I really should have worn a slip! The skirt was almost transparent with the light behind it! Oops! Made me think of that photo of Diana before the wedding when she was wearing a see-through skirt.
I have to say though that my (hair-free) legs are looking nicely tanned already; OK it's a mildly-tanning body lotion that's largely responsible, but it adds to one's confidence if your legs don't look like a pair of milk bottles hanging below your skirt!
I've been out and about most of the morning today (Sunday) walking along the river before dropping by my workplace. After yesterdays exhibitionism I've opted for a knee length denim skirt with a twisted leather belt, black and orange sandals and a white Led Zep t-shirt. I doubt whether anyone has even noticed the skirt, although a guy on a barge commented on 'the cool t-shirt'.
I've just bought a black tiered gypsy-style skirt, knee-length. Happily it's lined, so nothing on show that shouldn't be!
All best wishes,
ash

I've had exactly the same experience when wearing a denim skirt and a hat. A particularly sarcastic work colleague saw me and thought my hat was hilarious and poked fun at me over it!!! Never mentioned the skirt. When he saw me at a later date, he again asked me if I still had the hat. I asked him if he noticed what else I had been wearing on that previous occasion, and he looked at me blankly. He hadn't noticed the skirt.I've opted for a knee length denim skirt with a twisted leather belt, black and orange sandals and a white Led Zep t-shirt. I doubt whether anyone has even noticed the skirt, although a guy on a barge commented on 'the cool t-shirt'.
Since then I realised that denim skirts are practically invisible. I have been saying for ages that we need to capitalise on this and pester mainstream retailers to classify them as "unisex" and display them on the men's racks and label them with men's sizing information. Once denim skirts are on sale on the men's racks at Asda and BHS, the mould will have been irreversibly broken.

Over here in the US I've been doing the same thing with all the Men's King size online outlets and the catalogs I get that already carry both men's and women's clothes and accessories. I've harped incessantly at any store or online store I frequent. Push push push denim/khaki/camo skirts for Unisex wearers. Actual stores I've harped at are Walmart, KMart, Sears, and even Birkenstock Sandals in Key West who also carry some clothing that is already unisex.

I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.
