Can you dye nylon?
I want to dye one of my elkommando kilts black, it is 100% nylon. Does anyone know if this is possible or has experience with dyes.

Re: Can you dye nylon?
Without going the google route - I think that you could perhaps dye nylon BUT you will not
get the intensity and hue you would in dyeing cotton wool or other natural fabrics.
Nylon seems so waterproof or water resistant I would not waste the time and money to try it.
Most dyes require heat (very hot water) to make the tint set into the fabric and nylon does
not like a great deal of heat (it melts).
And then in subsequent washes look out for leaching of the dye into other fabrics.
Perhaps a weather beaten nylon fabric could be TINTED by dyeing but again why bother.
Try and see if you can buy a yard (bolt) of nylon in the color of your choice and go from there.

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: Can you dye nylon?
Just had a look at the Dylon website and found this:
Q
What fabrics can I dye?
A
Cotton, linen and viscose will dye to the full shade shown on the pack Mixtures of these with polyester will result in lighter shades Polyester, Nylon and other synthetics can not be dyed Wool and silk can be dyed with DYLON Hand Fabric Dye.
Have a look at the site, there might be something that might work.
