Well, the eclipse in this latitude was at 86 percent compared to the area north of Cairns where it was a total eclipse. (And, happily no cloud at the important time.) By Hobart it would have been a nearly negligible non event; as for Auckland, well Sorry Jack! Tourist revenues up north are well into the happy shopkeeper territory due to the huge influx of meteorological enthusiasts from around the world, including a strong contingent from NASA.

Next one for the continental USA will be in 2017 if Nostradamus; armageddon or other action have not intervened !
A terrific sight - the full eclipse - that is !
Terrified folks of earlier ages and gave Hollywood lots of material to make movies !

"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: 86%
Eclypses are awesome, aren't they? We had a total eclypse around the Grand Canyon during the summer. Phoenix is a ways from it, but we still got a pretty good site of the panumbra, it was about 80-something. My kids had fun watching it through the little pin-hole method. Sounds like a stupid idea, but it worked much better than I'd imagined it would. Can't wait for the next one, I'll only be 103 yrs old. If I eat right and exercise...
