My second (daytime) public appearance

Post by Tackleberry »

Well I plucked up the courage to go out this morning AND it wasn't as nerve racking as the first time!
Basically I need to go to a scrapyard for a part for my car but they were closed......
I then remembered that I forgot to get a few bits of shopping so as there was a Tescos on the way home I popped into there and as far as I know I didn't get stared at, apart from a little kid!
After Tescos I decided to wash my car at the car wash and again no one noticed or said owt, in fact as I was screwing the ariel back on the skirt blew up
In fact I'm more nervous walking around the block of flats where I live than elsewhere, that said a neighbour was leaving her flat as I was going in followed by a short conversation she didn't seem to even notice!!
So its like people have posted here, act natural and with confidence and no one could care less 8)
I was wearing a black knee length pleated skirt with 200 denier tights 8)
Now what was I worrying about?

Wearing a skirt in public seems like a really big deal until you do it a few times and discover that few people notice and still fewer care. It still surprises me how little notice others take of how I dress but now I find it almost irritating. I go to the trouble of wearing something that seems both comfortable and appropriate and they don't have the good manners to notice...

Have fun,

Ian.

No
There thermal ones I bought from Matalan on a whim, basically they don't show any skin through them and are quite comfy too - wore them with my black knee length, looks quite smart if I say so myself
Oh and if the skirt blows up it won't show anything either

I find 100s opaque enough and warm enough. I nearly bought some 140s last winter, but didn't feel I really needed them. 200s must be like leggings with feet.

Anyway, well done for going out skirted!

Good for you Tackleberry.

Yes you will find it more nerve-racking just outside your own door than elsewhere. The "what will the neighbours think?" "Will they still speak to me?" questions will race through your mind.

I haven't seen many neighbours whilst skirted but those that I have seen seemed quite oblivious to it - which is good! 8)

200 denier - I didn't think they got that thick. :o I usually have 60-80 denier black (Tesco's) and I do have one pair of thicker 100-denier ribbed tights for the cold weather.

The interesting thing is that most everybody will either not care, not even notice, or actually be supportive once they understand that there are no underlying "motives" for an alternate fashion sense other than comfort and whim.

I'll be very publically "out in the open" today when I head out to vote. Most everybody in my little town knows me by sight, so there's no possibility of me getting confused for somebody else -- and everyone that works the local polls knows me either by name or by association with my wife.

Just recall, "Don't panic!" :)

Actually a few neighbours have seen me, one had a short conversation with me outside my door, like yours, seemed quite oblivious.......
Yeah, tights got that thick, in Sainsburys and Matalan I've seen 300 denier ones
