Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.

When asked 'Why the Kilt?'
I respond-The why is F.T.H.O.I. (For The H--- Of It)
Great stuff. All those 'novelty piano solos were my forte when I was about his(Hodges's) age. I could add 'Dizzy fingers', Kitten on the Keys', 'Marygold' and 'Nola' to that list at one time, plus a lot of Joplin's ragtime stuff, 'five finger boogie' & Winnie Atwell's 'Black & White Rag' as well.
Nowadays however, it's just a lot of hard work keeping such pieces up to speed and my list of such dance numbers performable (by me) has contracted somewhat. I do keep a couple of Charlie Kunz's medleys more or less ready still....It's got to be my age!!
The strict time needed to pull that sort of thing off is for me harder to maintain, and my 'in-my-head' performable list has over the years reverted to the earlier romantic classics, mostly.
Impressive stuff of an entirely different genre, B&B. These guys are so professional that performing to a capacity -filled Albert Hall is just a day's work for them, but they give it their all, just the same. I like the floodlit sitting Budha on stage!
Good to hear the Doll Dance tune again, also 12th St. Rag by the same bloke. Wrong sort of piano though. Should be a battered upright in a smoky bar to attract and lubricate the customers for the ladies upstairs. I'll upload a few tracks from these two albums and see what you think of them. Meade "Lux" Lewis was definitely one of the originals. At the time of this recording it was said he'd worn out 14 uprights in his lifetime, and actually had one of them collapse under him as he played!
I really love "Ace" O'Donnell's rendition of "Peg Of My Heart" too.

Strewth Jack! I hope the poor bloke wasn't too badly injured I can just see an iron frame falling forward and you'd have to get out of the way real quick if you didn't want to sustain some fractures or even be ready for the next paralympics

The 'Steampunk' clip showing the inner workings of a pianola is interesting.
Some 2 years ago a rowing friend was downsizing his house (kids gone away, he'd retired and his wife due to a benign brain tumour could no longer play piano) GAVE us his very good oldish American pianola for our holiday bolthole. We hired a van and muscle (him & my younger son) and moved it down there.
My MM spends more time there than I do (my work commitmwnts) and she likes to have the thing play when I'm not around. Problem is finding rolls for it. They're as rare as hens' teeth. We've had it officially tuned recently, so it sounds 'in tune', certainly not honky tonk. It's become the centrepeice of our musical soirees down there.
