Just got first utilikilt/first outing!
Just got first utilikilt/first outing!
After the gym today I told the wife that I want to
get a utilikilt. She was kind of thrown off at first,
but thought they were kind of cool.
So we went just down the highway to Seattle.
I was going to procure a black New Standard for $150.
There was none in my size.
There was, however, a rack of discounted, experimental, and
error uk's. We found a black one that was one size bigger.
Tried it on with a belt, fit perfect. Only $40!
it has no pockets though.
The first outing, so far, was from the store to Starbucks and
Guitar Center. Very awesome!
Wife really likes it too.

Congratulations! Ain't it great?
It's so liberating to finally do something you've wanted to do for some time. Enjoy, and be yourself!

When I heard about skirting, I jumped in with both feet!
Re: Just got first utilikilt/first outing!
Congratulations on your first skirted / kilted outing.
Her reason for not liking some of my other skirts is that “people notice” and she feels uncomfortable with that. However my own observations suggest that the UK is one of the most noticeable skirts I own, probably gathering more attention even than the long ones. I believe this is because of the radically different profile it presents to trousers or straighter, non-pleated skirts. Carole has never been able to explain why she does not mind people noticing the UK but worries about other garments (even traditionally constructed kilts).
Strange things, other people’s minds…
Have fun (and enjoy your UK),
Ian.
Curiously I have found that Carole never kicks back at me wearing my UK unless it is just too informal for the occasion (in which case I prefer not to wear it anyway). She does react to some of my other skirts on occasion, based largely it seems on her mood.Skirt82 wrote:Wife really likes it too.

As I have already hinted, it's amazing the power of advertizing.Milfmog wrote: I have found that Carole never kicks back at me wearing my UK ... Carole has never been able to explain why she does not mind
If you can market a frilly shpaeless UK as a typically macho man's garmznt, you can sell vinegar to a oenologist.

Re: Just got first utilikilt/first outing!
Marketing is certainly a powerful force, but it is not relevant here as Carole has never seen any marketing from Utilikilts. She is not a confident web user and there is no local Utilikilt presence over here doing any marketing.couyalair wrote:As I have already hinted, it's amazing the power of advertizing.Milfmog wrote:I have found that Carole never kicks back at me wearing my UK ... Re: Just got first utilikilt/first outing!
Good to hear about your first trips - nice feeling isn't it?
I have been thinking about getting one for myself. The wives comments from various members here are very encouraging indeed. I would hope mine is accepting of it as one of her main grouses is that the skirts I have are from the other side of the aisle.
In fact I will do it - correct that (stop press!) - I have just ordered a UK!
It was one mentioned on this forum in another thread - which you can also get to by logging into e-bay and typing in "Utility kilt."

I'll let you know how I get on - hopefully still with head in place!

Re: wife's support, last weekend I did some modifications to my wife's antique booth. On our way out she stopped to talk to another dealer. The conversation turned to joking about my working on a ladder in my denim UK. She commented that a lot of men can't wear a kilt (referring to aesthetics) but I certainly could. She doesn't mind my UKs in the right setting.

Got my khaki UK and tried it on. I thought it was fine. Then I put it back in the packet and plucked up the courage to tell and show it to the wife.skirtingtoday wrote: In fact I will do it - correct that (stop press!) - I have just ordered a UK!
Did that last night and got the pursed lip, the furrowed brow, the rolling eyes,

I take it that is a definite NO then!

If it's that bad, then sadly I'm beginning to think you may never get her on your side.skirtingtoday wrote:complete refusal to talk about it followed by, literally, heaving out her stomach into the toilet!

Re: Just got first utilikilt/first outing!
Well, ST, that was a powerful and most irrational answer, and one that will defy any attempts at reasoned thought or argument.
Being a rational creature, I don't have any words of advice at this point save for possibly giving the notion a rest for a bit and the next time it's blazing hot and she's got on something light and floaty and you're in trousers make an offhand comment to the effect of, "Boy I wish I could wear something cooler than these things." However, that might make matters even worse; I can't say.
In any event, I feel for you on this one. Here's hoping it works out for the best!

ST, that seems almost pathological. Getting physically sick over your UK is really over the top. I'm not saying it's the case here, but I have known people to to use extreme emotional displays as a form of passive aggression to compel behavior more in line with their personal preferences, and never mind what your preferences are.

Well Skirtingtoday, you may be right in your assumption that your wife’s reaction indicates some lack of acceptance regarding your UK. However from your signature I can tell that you have been a skirt wearer for over three years.skirtingtoday wrote: I take it that is a definite NO then!
If she accepts you wearing skirts, she should have no troubles with your Utilikilt – as I see it. So there should be some hope, or?

Congratulations! A great kilt at a very favorable price, good reactions and a positive wife. What more could you wish?Skirt82 wrote:Tried it on with a belt, fit perfect. Only $40!

Re: Just got first utilikilt/first outing!
That is so sad. Especially the refusal to talk. Hopefully there can be some dialog in the spirit of compromise. Maybe you will just not be able to wear it at home but can when you're out doing errands or out of town. One point in your favor is that it's a men's garment. Good luck on future progress on this front!skirtingtoday wrote: ...got the pursed lip, the furrowed brow, the rolling eyes, the spoken "I don't like it!", the tears welling up, the ignoring me, the "Why would you want THAT?" and complete refusal to talk about it followed by, literally, heaving out her stomach into the toilet!
