BMI versus Skirt length

Post by skirtingtoday »

Here is a very quick test from the BBC website for BMI

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18770328

Just for fun, let's start a thread for BMI versus skirt length(s) you feel comfortable with.

For me it is BMI 23 and usual skirt length 13-19" Favourite is 14" denim mini

(... and 92% of males in my age group have higher BMI than me)

Congratulations; you'll live to be a healthy 100.
My statistics are very similar to yours (except that I measure my skirts in cm -- 78cm waist, 48-54 long).

Each time I come back to France, I admire the number of slim people around me. After periods in Spain, where the locals, recovering from the hardships of the civil war, are following the sad example of obese tourists from the north, the contrast is quite striking. The BBC statistics bear out my intuition that the French are among the slimmest in Europe. The red wine must dissolve away the excess cheese and charcuterie.

"And the winner izzzz:"
My BMI is 22 and my preferred skirt length is 22 inch.
There are some striking similarities here:
Age 63 weight 63
BMI 22 and skirt length 22
Length 171 cm and my IQ is ???.

BMI (according to that grossly inaccurate survey) 25, Skirt length 25, but there the similar figures end. Age 70, Weight 86Kg.

I take issue with a BMI arrived at using so few indices. I've in recent years been given the serious going over at the Human Performance Lab. at Trinity College Dublin and both times (4 years apart) scored 17.4. They take in all manner of indices gleaned from their tests, which include hooking you up to an exhaler which measures your lactates while you hammer away on an ergometer, and they take a blood sample every three minutes during the stress test. They also measure skin fold thicknesses in lots of places and they have some way of measuring your muscle and bone masses as well, eventually arriving at a figure like I have said.
The young bloods in their 20s going for International level performances score frequently in single figures, like 8 or 9. One ex-lightweight rower on our crew, easily the skinniest of us oldies scored 12.6 once.

What IS BMI regarding skirts?? To ME, BMI is Broadcast Music Incorporated. My Mother, who was a BMI writer for 60 years(if she were alive) wouldn't have any other definition for BMI. Live and Learn...

Indeed basing a Body Mass Index (BMI) on such scant data is just asking for false results, but one expects that the intelligent amongst us will take that number with the grain of salt that is implicitly intended.

I came in at a 22 BMI, which for a 51-year-old isn't all that shabby. I don't even get any similarities -- a 22 inch skirt would fall almost precisely at my knee which, on my frame, looks particularly dowdy, and a 22 centimeter skirt would be decidedly immodest, probably leading to a date in the dock. 22 inches is close to the halfway mark for my very long ones, so if we're allowed powers of two then there may be something there.

BMI 24. preferred skirt/kilt length is 22"-26" but that's based on my leg length rather than my weight.

Skip,
BMI is a higly simplified weight to height ratio. basically the heavier you are for your height, the higher the BMI.
BUT, it takes no account of muscle to fat ratios; it assumes it is all fat.
So a very fit and strong bodybuilder or person with a lot of muscle and <10% body fat can have similar BMI to someone who is genuinely obese and a body fat of 50%.

I scored 21. That would make me average in Bangladesh and obese in Eritrea. I prefer slightly longer skirts, like in the 24" range (I gotta hide the bottom of the mormon underware, you know).

I can see how the supposition by the OP would hold true for girls. In theory, the higher the BMI the longer the skirt length we'd like to see them in (if at all). The nicer and more shaply the girl , the lower the BMI, the more leg I like to see, hence the shorter skirt. Conversely, the bigger the girl, the less leg I'd be interested in seeing.

For the guys it's not so cut-n'-dry. We all have our own opinion of what's best for us, and each would look better in a particular length, and worse in others. Looking at the current trend in shorts lengths, in my area of the world (Arizona U.S.A) they tend to be at knee length for regular guys, and longer in the guys of the more athletic persuasion. So we don't normally see other guys legs much above the knees (not sure I want too either).

To summarize: I like to see guys in skirts, but I LOVE to see girls in skirts (wink wink, nudge nudge).

My BMI works out at 22

Skirt lengths I wear are 18 inches (minimum) with most around knee length (as per the name) of 23 inches and the longest around 27 inches.

MY BMI is 24 by a height of 5’10” (178 cm).

My skirt lengths:
Image
24”= max and a little bit too long for my taste

Image
22.5” just a little bit above knee. My preferred length. John Morrison 5 yard wool kilt (Heritage of Scotland)

Image
21.5” Utilikilt

Image
21.5” Utilikilt

Image
21” and sitting low. 4 yard PV Kilt and still perfect, I think.

Image
20” 10 oz. Ladies Knee Length Kilt (Heritage of Scotland). The length is still OK, I think

Image
20” 10 oz. Ladies Knee Length Kilt (Heritage of Scotland). Sitting higher and now too short

Image
19” and sitting low. O’Neill wool mini kilt (Schottenladen.de). Length acceptable to my opnion

Image
19” and sitting high = too short. O’Neill wool mini kilt (Schottenladen.de)

Image
18” = too short. Ladies Kilt Skirt (Tartanista)

Your opinion is welcome.

GerdG,

Great kilts except for the UK's, especially the tan one. The light from the right puts the creasing in the shadow amplifying the effect.
This is why I don't wear Utilikilts anymore. I did own a tan mocker which I had to iron every day.
The 20, 19 and 18 in. kilts I find a tad too short.

A kilt tour-de-force, Gerd. What's very nice about all your offerings is the perfect quality of the pictures and the very neat kilthose, or knee-high socks& nice shoes which set off the kilts admirably.
I agree with your assessment of the lengths. Just above the knee is my preferred hemline and you have a plethora of lovely kilts of that length for you. Best of that bunch to my eye is the 4-yd. PV kilt in blue tartan. As you say, just perfect.

As far as I am concerned all the kilts are perfect in length, especially like the last one. Not too keen on the look of the tan kilt it looks like it has been stitched by an amateur, maybe the light angle is making it look worse than it actually is. :)
BTW my Bmi is 22 and I like my skirts and shorts 32cm to 36cm. :D

Tan or khaki kilts do show wrinkles more than most.
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.
