Hiking socks with a kilt?

Post by WyoProspector »

I'm planning to wear a kilt for most of my outdoor activities this year and since I will be beating around in a lot of sagebrush and other desert growth I've began to research what to use to protect my legs.

I've been looking at over the calf socks and have considered making my own form of gaiters.

Last year I wore, on occasion, a skirt and just hikers and I scratched my legs up pretty good... more than once :? .

Any suggestions?
I can't think of anything to put here that won't offend SOMEONE.

Hiking socks work, but usually are only crew socks. I'd go for soccer socks, or similar socks that can be found on the www.sockdreams.com site.

Kilted_John has the right idea - use soccer socks.
To view a sample use this ebay link:

The adidas line of socks has some 20 combinations of color and design.
I have a few of those as well as some made by Wilson.
They are heavy duty enough to survive hiking and other athletic uses.
You could also consider what is on the other side of asile in the womens section - Slouch socks.
They are not as tight or form fitting on the lower leg but they can be pulled up to the knee and unless you are doing
repetitive jumping jacks for the most part they stay put. The material however is softer and will likely snag on underbrush.
I have some of those also and frequently use a garter for flashes to aid in keeping the sock in place over the leg calf.
The only real way to prevent leg injury is to wear heavy leather chaps - so you all be careful out there !
Even at that just because you are wearing Superman socks does not mean that you are invulnerable - steer clear of the
thorny thistles and the barb wire fences.
Wear something less expensive than dress kilt socks for playing around in the Outback.

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

I stopped by the local sporting goods store and looked at soccer sox today. Oh yea, over the calf, light weight but built tough. Should complement the look of a kilt and keep the brush from tearing at my flesh.
Thanks for the suggestions!
