Knees are Ugly!

As an addition to my post about hem lengths above and below the knees I want to add this as a seperate thought. It is strictly my opionion of course!
I think knees are UGLY! Both men and women's knees!
Even on a really skinny, sickly looking fashion models, knees wrinkle when you stand up. Yuck!
Knees only look good when you sit down and then when bent the skin stretches over the kneecap and they look okay.
But these ultra short skirts today have everyones ugly knees showing all the time.
I just never felt comfortable when I tried to wear anything above the knee. It seems too immodest to me.
I keep hoping skirts will go longer and maybe they'll come back in style again as women no longer have to work at modesty.
But, hey, that and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee!

This is frequently interesting fodder for conversation precisely because so many folks have such strong opinions about the human form -- and often, so long as care is taken, everybody can have a good community laugh about it.

For instance, I am a sucker for a nice pair of legs (so I like miniskirts), but I absolutely detest bare feet and hence do not like sandals -- on anybody. I do not know why this is so, but it is, so I just suck it up and deal because wider society clearly does not share this opinion.

So, there we go: another opinion to throw into the pot. We can always "pull the chain" later.

Not so sure about that.
I don't like closed shoes and prefer by far to dance bare-foot. You would not believe the reactions, sometimes verbally violent, that I get from other people (and yes, I do wash my feet from time to time!). I am really made to feel like a social misfit or halfwit, even in circles where kilts and skirts are accepted.

I don't really think many people share you dislike of knees, crfriend, but plenty seem to share Dennis' dislike of feet (or vice versa, can't remeber who wrote what!)

If they're so ugly to you, then just wear OTK or thigh-high socks. Or opague tights. But, don't require others to do the same. Personally, I prefer the look of bare knees. In fact, mine are uncovered 24/7. Think the last time I wore a pair of long trousers was in January for a divorce trial that I was a witness in. As soon as I got home, I changed out of them and into something more comfortable. Even during the past week, when the weather has been below freezing, I've either been in a pair of shorts or have been skirted (with two or three knee-length skirts layered for extra warmth). Legwear has been two pairs of kneesocks.

With respect to bare feet, I sometimes do that in the summer when I'm at home. The rest of the time, the feet are socked. Sandals are a summer only thing if I'm going to be in the backyard. I have gout, so, my feet tend to require either hiking boots, athletic shoes, or other comfortable closed toe and heel shoes, otherwise, I wind up having an attack. So, frequently, in the summer, I've a lightweight skirt on, a pair of trouser socks and athletic shoes when I'm out and about. Keeps me cool, but still provides the right amount of support so I don't wind up in pain.

Let's all bear in mind that we're in deeply personal-opinion territory here, and to tread lightly. As a moderator, I suspect that if we all are careful with this, we can all have a good chuckle together over our own opinions. Let's just not "call one another out" over them.

I candidly admitted in a prior post that I have no clue why I have my own particular prejudice, and I'll wager that more than a few of us here have prejudices that similarly baffle the holder if they do some introspection. I'm looking at this as a bit of an experiment to see if we can stretch our minds a bit.

Of course if we can't, I can always lock or delete the thing.

Beauty is, as the saying goes, in the eye of the beholder. The human form in either the 'David' or the 'Aphridite' form is a timeless masterpeice, and shall remain a joy to behold until the extinction of the Human Race.
It is the diseased, malformed, bloated or obese forms that offend visually. As a fine elderly lady friend of mine says...'If you've got 'em, Flaunt 'em!' She was referring to legs, or pins.
I spent my whole adult life boat shoving, and in consequence I still sport uninjured muscular legs which I like to flaunt. I wear shorts & kilts in public and short skirts in private and my legs are tanned the whole year round. Mind you, with the advent of freezing weather this week I cover up like most sensible people.
Plenty of time to show 'em again in the Spring, D.V.

To me (as someone else said) this seems all so subjective. Personally I like below knee length, not that I am ashamed of my knees, I just think it's more modest. However, as they say, opinions are like noses, everyone has one. I compare it to why some people like or dislike certain foods. Some people love lima beans, some people hate 'em (me). Some people love apple pie (me) some people hate it..wait... SOME PEOPLE HATE APPLE PIE??!! *jumps up and down yelling incoherently, throws things, then goes into dead faint*

I almost share the knees opinion (knees are ugly) but not quite. But I definitely think hairy legs are unattractive - which is why I shave mine.

And I find that shaving the knees is quite challenging: The contours are not conducive at all!

(Bloated and full from Thanksgiving dinner. Our tradition is to dine out in a restaurant, so I donned a short skirt, heels, nice shirt, jacket, and fedora and had a traditional menu of Tapas, Paella, Flan, and Vino! My two ladies looked lovely in dinner dresses, and a very pleasant evening was enjoyed by all hands.)

That's because by the very nature of this particular thread all the opinions held are highly subjective. That's also the reason we need to tread lightly. It's doubtful that anybody'll get his knickers in a twist over knees or feet, but I can see how comments on size and the like could push some folks' buttons rather hard.

Most of the stuff I wear in public is below-the-knee, but that's because of a geometry problem not the lack of good legs -- I am quite massive above the waist, and very short skirts tend to look odd and a little bit jarring on me. And, even though I really like minis during the summer months, they don't quite line up gracefully with other elements of my personal style which tend to add mass rather than minimise it.

I definitely think hairy legs are unattractive - which is why I shave mine.

For me, this is an "it depends"; a proper pelt on the legs can work on a guy. Unfortunately, I don't grow one, never have, and if I don't shave my legs it looks like the moths have been at me. (I started shaving my legs well before I started wearing skirts, I'll add, and can concur about the hassle of shaving knees.)

Here are my personal opinions - others may feel to differ from mine and that's all right.

In the summertime I like to wear denim skirts that are 5 cm (2 inches) above the knees. I wear them at that height for comfort's sake, not for any formal occasions. During that time of the year I have two pairs of sandals that are my favorites - a 1.5 inch heel pair of sandals and a 2.75 inch wedge pair of sandals - normally worn by women. I find those heel heights to be more comfortable than the dead-flat sandals that are marketed to men.

I have been going through boxes of clothes that my ex-wife left me and found a number of mid-calf to ankle length dresses that fit me. I have been wearing the warmer ones during this cold snap in the Dallas, TX area.

My feeling for formal occasions that if I had kilts or skirts that showed my knees I would wear tights rather than socks since I don't care for the look of bare knees under those circumstances.

So, here are my feeling about knees - OK to show them for informal occasions, but for formal occasions, either longer skirts or pants, or wear tights.

If I may chime in here, 'over-the-calf' knee socks are very much accepted,
especially when the kilt falls to mid-knee. They add to the total over-all picture.

My knees don't get cold, but I also don't wear my kilts when the temperature
gets below 60*F. I have tried to wear my kilts when the temperature was around
45*F and decided, right then and there, never again
My lower legs were OK but my upper legs were quite chilled

OK, enough about temperature. The 'line' created between the top of the
'knee-socks' and the bottom of the kilt, is a 'defining' line. Very much accepted.
The amount of knee that can be seen is quite minimal yet adds to the 'over-all look'.
Similar to the belt, the 'knee-line' helps to define and emphasize the 'color palette'
of the outfit.

Everyone please keep in mind that I don't and NEVER intended to suggest anything that would "force" anyone else to do anything.
I am, always, for total personal freedom of choice, as long as no one else is harmed by our choices.
So hem lengths are, always, a personal choice.
I just wish "fashion" was more liberal in allowing choices to us all.
Both in what garments we wear and what styles we want to wear.
It is all, just a personal opinnion.
I expressed mine, so everyone is more than welcom to express theirs.
