"Skirted" suit for men

Post by Uncle Al »

I can't copy the pic, so I've added the link to a Kilt Site that offers
Kilted Tweed Suits. This 'concept' could be used to make a full circle
skirt suit for men. At least this Tweed Kilt Suit is a great start :!:

Hmm, that is interesting and $495 is actually not a bad price for a wool jacket if it is well made. The description implied it did not include the kilt to make a whole suit. I didn't spend the time to research matching/coordinating kilts.

Interesting thread. My daughter and (future) son-in-law just asked me to wear a skirt to their wedding, in my role as father of the bride. I was thinking of going down to the local Brooks Brothers and talking to the sales staff about assembling a suit by raiding both sides of the store.

Perhaps I'll bring these photos with me.

More expensive certainly, but much more?

The Glen Tilt Tweed jacket and vest costs US$495, a kilt to go with it retails at US$485 (13oz as recommended) making a total of US$980.
The 21st Centuary kilt suit consists of kilt, jacket, waistcoat (vest), kilt pin, socks and flashes. It retails for £740 (approx US$1144)

By my reckoning the difference in price is just under 17%; significant, but not massive.

I have not seen any Glen Tilt garments, but I can say that the quality of tailoring provided by Twentyfirst Centuary Kilts is superb and ever since I saw one of their kilts suits being worn at a formal dinner dance a few years ago I have had a hankering for one. I'm just not able to justify the expense.

Have fun,

Ian.

I can vouch for the quality of the Twenty-First Century kilt. Howie is a lovely guy and a top kilt maker. I got married in one of his creations and I guess that was one of the few occasions when the groom's outfit cost more than the bride's. After 10 years, me and the missus are still together and very much in love!!!

Chris -- I just read that a few minutes ago and have but one thing to say: "Congratulations", both to you and to the happy couple. I think it's wonderful that both accept -- even embrace -- your sartorial sense, and wish you luck with a "both-sides-of-the-store" suit!

Put this ensemble together off the rack...It's very close to final. The shoes will be different - something in a matte finish rather than the gloss of these. Also I will be changing to a yellow bowtie, because the bridesmaids are all in yellow dresses. The groomsmen are in all black (trousers shirt tie & jacket.) The groom will be in black shirt but may wear a grey jacket.

My role is to escort the Bride's mother down the aisle, as Father of The Bride.

Oh, and to sign checks, too. :)

My, that's going to be a non-traditional wedding. :)

Nice outfit :!:

I would've gone with a knee-length pleated gray skirt, gray long tie & over-the-calf
gray hose. A mat finish on the shoes would be ideal. You could use a pair of gray
shoes to match the socks & tie.
But, that's my opinion :D

Nice outfit, well put together. Is that a pencil skirt? Does it have a slit or pleat at the back to let you walk with dignity?

Chris,
Since that's clearly a tux coat you have, why not go with a little more of a formal skirt? Take a look at these:

I particularly like 502FAA in black.

Oh, my.

John -- Have you had any dealings with those folks? I like several of their designs, and the prices look almost too good to be for real, and at smack in the middle between sizes, I'd need advice.

That 502FAA in red certainly strikes my fancy -- I need a red skirt. OK, I just want one. Badly.

Carl,
Yes, I buy from them for our singing group. You have to realize that the fabric tends to be light-weight because it's for the hot stage. You can't see through them, but it's pretty close. Overall, I like the company and their products. Their pricing is low, but competitive relative to the other producers of the same type of things. They do their own manufacturing, the stuff is NOT made in China.
