If this Mayan calendar stuff is right, it'll save my profession one heck of a mess come 2038!

the mayans just didn't yet make another "long calendar". they didn't prophesize anything, they just didn't get their next one built before they went bye-bye.

i've stacked this one up next to the "y2k", "end of the millenium" , and nostradomas's quatrains.
nothing real. no empirical evidence. nothing to panic about.

but it will sell movie tickets, and scare the CRAP out of the uninformed!

Great cartoon, great blog. If you follow his links, you can have additional hours (well, maybe minutes) of entertainment.

Hey Carl,
By 2038. all computers, Un*x derived or otherwise, will be museum pieces. Which is to say, only folks like you will have a problem!

Hey imadube,
Perhaps by 2012, "no one" will write "noone", for which I will be grateful!

As you say, a great cartoon and blog. I always get amused and irritated in roughly equal measure when folks trot out these daft predictions based on arbitrary numbers, arbitrary calendars or ancient fairy tales (usually modified almost beyond recognition by retelling and mistranslation). It's good to know I'm not alone :D

Have fun (and thanks for the link),

Don't worry "noone" will care. Whatever that word means.
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Well, aparently 2012 is just the end of a Mayan "cycle"...the ancient Mayans and Aztecs had cycles of years.

There's another native group with a 2012 prediction....the Hopi of Arizona, who among other things have a "gourd of ashes" and a "purification"...and one interpretation is that there may be World War III...but depends on which interpretation you hear. One even says that the US will be destroyed by a great spiritual conflict fought with material means...and the survivors will build a new world.

Interesting stuff, eh?

Whatever the future will be like...I hope we don't enter an era where everyone is dressed either like someone from Star Trek or the Jetsons. *laughs* (although on a sidenote, the first two seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation did have some men in "tunic" type unbifurcated uniforms popularly called "skants", but the later seasons this is not seen)

I would put ancient soothsayers acting alone or in combination with others on my sod off list.

ALso if Mostardamus et al predicted so much how come no one anticipates and mitigates against the ill effects.

If you ask me it is literate depressed ancients on downers
