Fall Fashion
Fall Fashion

I was flipping through some Fall fashion by Jean Paul Gautlier and was disappointed in the few skirt like garments he had in the show for men. However, there were about three pictures - two with skirts over pants (yuk) and the link I have above.
This one was about slide number 36 or so and hopefully you can either click on the link, or use the old copy and paste method to get to the web site.
This one was interesting to me - an outfit that might not be too far out there for the above average Joe to try.
On a different issue - pointy shoes and Afro (sic?) hair styles seem to dominate the show. Kind of reminded me of the early 70's back when they were in vogue.
Your thoughts?

Re: Fall Fashion
For the most part, this is 'passable' to me.
I would not wear the 'complete' outfit, but
parts of the outfit are a definite 'maybe'.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'ld give it a 7.5+

Not a skirt, but perhaps a step in the right direction. It would give the feeling of wearing a skirt and is only a step away from a skirt. Some may discribe it as a split skirt.

Re: Fall Fashion
In the last link, those have been known variably as cullotes, Sailor pants, Hakama pants and other names. I can imagine Uncle Al in one of those "high" hairdos.
Someone with pull needs to contact Gaultier and suggest a few models try a T-shirt, utilikilt style skirt with lots of pockets, work boots and most important of all...muscles, some tan and A SMILE. All the professional models seem to be ready to either run away or start a fight.

Re: Fall Fashion
Models have that blank - "who cares" - "don't bother me" kind of look at the request of the designers.
The designers want the focus on the clothes, not the beautiful smile or good looks of the model.
Seems a shame - a nice smile would, should, or could (take your pick) enhance the clothes in my opinion.

Here is a link to another fashion designer. Click on the slide show and flip through the 44 pictures. Perhaps 12 (25%) clearly are men in skirts with an additional half dozen in garments that could be described as coulots.

Re: Fall Fashion
I would have a lot of strong comment on this "Fall Fashion", but I'm afraid I could offend someone....
Very simple SILLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Fall Fashion
Perhaps silly is a bit weak for how they "dress" the models in the show ---
but we must remember that what shows up on the catwalk rarely is what is placed into the market place. All clothes undergo transformation before they are ready to be sold to the public.
I just found it interesting that there still are a few designers out there who are attempting to break the old stereotypes of "skirts are for girls only" and "men shall wear pants only".

Re: Fall Fashion
Very interesting slide show. A good pin-stipe skirt i thought. What's it with the silly hats?! Nice waistcoats, and one or two good skirts in there. I think skirts work better when there is not too much heavy stuff on the upper body. Maybe some of the skirts were not full enough for the light material. Just my thought on it. Jack.
Re: Fall Fashion
Um,er, well
sorry! ==my take on them, though that could be the rest of the rig they're wearing. Catwalk fashions aren't going anywhere if they present that! I can get better skirts, suitable for the male wearer, from eBay and op. shops

Re: Fall Fashion
Old farts like me may not want to be caught dead wearing the outfits designers put together, not just the skirt outfits but the pants outfits as well. However, if skirt wearing for men is ever to catch on, we must have the energy and support of young men in the cause.
We may be more conservative, but it is the youth who will abandon old fashion and establish the new trends as far as fashion for men is concerned. These fashions may be over the top for us, yet if they bring youth into the cause - we are heading in the right direction.

Re: Fall Fashion
I wonder how much relief from the sun you can get with a beret glued to the side of your afro? My favorite one was the 6 or 7 year old boy with the gargantuan afro and hat stuck to the side of his "hair" crying his eyes out. I think he had the best looking skirt in the collection. He was the only model that looked natural and not stiff. I wonder who convinced Gaultier to go with all those fake looking afro wigs?

Re: Fall Fashion
Oh don't go and blame Gautilier for the hats,
This designer was Comme des Garçons!
But yes - the hats were silly!

Re: Fall Fashion
GHA!!!
I just looked at the newer slideshow.
So close and yet so far.
What was the deal with the stupid little hats, that would look dumb even on women.
Also, what about those models that looked drug addled to the extreme!!!!
The hair styles were terrible to say the least.
I have to say I did like some of the skirted outfits, though for the most part the rest of the outfit was sloppy looking.
When are these damned designers going to get a clue and present skirts for men in a much better light than this dreck?
