Bad Day, Good Day ...
Bad Day part ...
So I have been having a series of serious computer problems for the last few months. I have three laptops, all in use and two have been giving excessive challenges -- Explinatives deleted!!!!
So after a frustrating morning of troubleshooting it was time to go grocery shopping. I still had my head in the computers even as I was picking up food from the self-serve deli counter. Then ...
... Good Day part ...
There were three women working in the deli prep area. One of them popped over on her way to a break and says; One of the women said: "he looks better in that skirt than I would, that must have been an expensive skirt." Well no it was not. We then had a quick conversation about the relative cost of skirts. And I mentioned how I discovered how an ankle length skirt looked good with a sport jacket, etc ...
About 1.5-2 years ago one of the stock men stopped to talk to me about my Utilikits. I seems some of the younger men had been question was I "gay" no ... something else.... As we talked he told'em no he did not think I was gay or any thing like that. He thought it was just an ethnic thing. Forgot to mention the staff are 90% Latino so there is a bit of a culture mis-match here also. So as we talk one question he asked his staff mates was "would you wear a kilt"" to a person all said NO WAY! Then he (me) has more courage than you? ... Yes.....
So what I told him no it is not a culture thing I'm not a Scot or Irish, I'm German, I just like wearing a Kilt/skirt. He was happy with that. And I'm sure the news went back.
SO now when I go into my local grocery store I know BOTH the men and women staff are checking me out.

Hi Brandy, I've been a member nearly as long as you have and this is the first time I have seen a picture of you. If you'd like to see a picture of me, drop by Skipscafe and look under "The Admirable Me". Link to site is at bottom of this page. As Monster Pete says, "nice skirt"..I agree. Have several similar ones also.

I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Re: Bad Day, Good Day ...
Hi Skip, There were a number of my pictures on the old Tom's Cafe. I think I've been this and Tom's forum around 2000-2001 that is when I first got "into" skirts/kilts.
I even have an Original UK. That is before they had the wrap aprons. It did not fit very well but it was a start.
I tend not to post much these days I read a lot. Post when something happens or when I have an opinion.

Brandy,
Good to read you, and see your pic's again. The last time I
saw you, was when I took you to lunch. I think it was early
summer of 2001. I met you at your hotel, and we went to
IHOP. You were in town for an electronics conference I believe.
Anyway, you were up on the north side of Dallas, possibly in
Farmers Branch. We had a good day then, and I hope you're
still wearing those wonderfull skirts & kilts.
Now I'm a Grandpa, and soon to be for the second time. I haven't
made anymore kilts though. To many other things going on now.
Happy St. Patricks Day!

Hi Brandy,
Nice looking skirt!, that is something I wear in the bay area too. I have not had any problems to speak of either.

Re: Bad Day, Good Day ...
Hi Uncle Al,
My memories of that trip are a bit dim. I think I was attending a computer class, which was some time ago. I do remember getting around was a challenge, during that time I made about 6 trips to Dallas/Fort Worth. And during one of them I met up with some old friends. One of whom now lives in Ireland, I did not tell’em I was into wearing kilts and it came as a big surprise. I got teased a little but it was all in good fun. It got to the point where my friends were using my kilt to tease other people. It was one of my first all weekend meet and greet the public with no fall back. I left the trousers home and had a great time.
Thank you for the memories.

Thanks for compliment. To think I almost did not wear it, falling back on the old UK's.
I use to frequent the Kilty sites a lot more then I started to notice how many there seemed to bring the same mental straight jacket with them from the trouser wearing. You know "it’s a KILT, not a SKIRT!! ...." OH give me a break, it seemed to me not much had been learned.
Maybe since I took the step into a skirt first then kilts that my outlook turned out different, then maybe not. After throwing off the mental shackles I was not going to limit myself to only one style of "skirt". There are days I do wonder and I still ask "is it ok?" Then something like last Sunday happens and "Yes, it is OK!"

Yes, a lot of kilters seem hung up on the whole "braveheart" thing. For me a kilt is a very nice, manly, comfortable skirt. I doubt wether too many jeans wearers are trying to get in touch with their Gold Rush heritage.Brandy wrote:I use to frequent the Kilty sites a lot more then I started to notice how many there seemed to bring the same mental straight jacket with them from the trouser wearing. The skirt and outfit works wonderfully. In fact it works so well it ought to elicit zero response in the great outdoors, as it is all so natural looking. ( and you look well at ease).
Yes, it is OK

Re: Bad Day, Good Day ...
You're completely right about that. They thing how brave are they, but can't admit that kilt is just a sort of skirt. It's only a garment after all and not something to give such a great importance. It's not The Holly Grail. I admit, I like kilts very much, they are comfortable and not constraining a man during walking. But..... paying $$$$ for something that you're afraid to ruin on a fast.... I don't know. Similar as having nice suit to clean your car. No sense. So, beside wearing kilts, why not have possibility to wear something cheaper but still comfortable and good looking? Right?Brandy wrote:Hi Uncle Al,

Re: Bad Day, Good Day ...
Hope those computer problems get sorted out, Brandy. Of course it does lead to the opportunity to have skirt conversations at electronics stores as well as the market. What really struck me about the picture was the hat, a woefully underappreciated item of clothing these days. It made me realize hats are another way to help add to the masculine clues when going out skirted for those anxious about how they will be perceived.
