Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.
A poster at another site said: I'm reminded of a time when David Bowie was asked why he was wearing a woman's dress. He replied saying he was wearing a man's dress, because he owned it.
Women's clothing is only women's if they belong to a woman. If they belong to a man, then they are men's clothing. Thus a man is still a man.
I posted this because something a member said a while back hurt me deeply enough at that time to pull my picture from the pics and looks forum. He said: "You're wearing a WOMAN'S skirt". If I'd had this response then, I'd have used it. Some people don't realize how hurtful they can be when they're sniping at another person. We can ALL take this one to the bank.
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Ignore what others say if you're happy with what you wear then that what counts
I am now, Zigster, I've put the pics back in the pics and looks forum. At the time it hurt me tho. And this from someone who has complained a lot about how people percieve him. An old saying my mom gave me was "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" fits here.

Hmmmm. Objection to the language. "Twat" is a derogatory term for the human female. I think you had meant "twit", slang for someone berefit in the IQ department.

We have a conflict between American and British English here. Ziggy is using the word correctly, in the British context, where it means a contemptible and stupid person. I think it can also be slang for hitting someone.

Agree with the latter two definitions, both noun & verb (& quite mild as language goes, to be honest!) but Sapphire is almost correct, too, as in UK vernacular it may also refer to female genitalia (rather than a whole person!), but not used in 'polite' company!
I've been told repeatedly I get hurt or insulted too easily by unthinking people. (old folks tend to react to everything or ignore everything)I've tried very hard and am STILL not responding to things I don't like. Maybe others should take that same advice. Unthinking people aren't ALWAYS aiming their comments at any particular group or individual, they're just venting 'cause their upset over something. Today in one post I saw something I didn't like, I said nothing, don't intend to. Life's easier that way. Just trying to help here. I'd hate to see a flame war start over one word. That has happened before, it never comes out good.

First, thank you for speaking up about word use sapphire, when the aim of the site is to be family friendly is important to educate people when their words can have unintended connotations.
Now to the main point, Skip you have referenced this private message several times before and I was always saddened and surprised to hear someone would use this forum to bully another member. Now that you have given the quote "You're wearing a WOMAN'S skirt" I sense it is not something said to anger you but to make a point. Had you commented to that member that they wear women's clothing? If that was the case then the response was meant to point out that you are the same, not as an insult.
