There's a public interest story here, at least for us lot: Boston Globe: Mailman Seeks Comfort in Kilt

It's interesting that they had to revert to the "old" term for the modern "letter-carrier" as a goodly percentage of letter-carriers in the US are now women, but here it is, in print I assume, as well as on-line. And right down the street, too. How'd I miss this one this morning whilst making the first pot of coffee at work?

I wish him luck in his crusade.

Pretty fair reporting, too! Which makes a healthy change! Fascinating thoughts from some of the other interviewees. Difficulty bending? Climbing stairs? Oh well, they won't know 'til they try, will they? The 'look' depicted certainly seems to meet the stated criteria, and note, it ain't a 'conventional' Kilt, either! Highly practical, comfortable and healthy! Mmnn, have to be careful, the women will be wanting to wear 'em, next!

This is my letter to the writer from the Globe......

David,

My hat is off to you! Thank you for writing
this article. I also have one of the Utiltikilts
in Postal Blue. Nothing but positive comments
from both men and women. No, I'm not in the
postal service. By the picture I saw on the
Globe's website, it looks quite natural, a part
of the uniform. I have 5 kilts, and wish that
the "macho-males" of America would realize that
it takes b*lls to wear a kilt, and kilts are better
for men's health. Granted, they should be worn
when the situation warrents it. I would not wear
my kilts doing anything which would require
protection for my legs. That's where tr**sers
or p*nts come into use, just common sense.
When I'm at some of the big shopping malls, my
wife is told, by other women shoppers, many times
that men should wear kilts. One lady said she
wished all men wore kilts. She really loves a
man in a kilt. My wife said she did too,
grinning back to the lady.

Why can't the "Fashionistas" break the 'mold' that
men can only wear tr**sers or p*nts? What notion
is there that if you are male, you must wear pants?
Why are men 'sheep'? Why can't men have a variety
in their wardrobe choices? Since World War II,
women have worn trousers/slacks as this was for
their safety when they worked in the factories.
(The men were at war.) Now it is common place for
women to wear slacks/pants any time they want or
need to. Why can't men have that same choice?

Thanks again for this article. Maybe it will help
men to think 'out-side-the-box'.

Al, you actually used asterisks in your letter to David Abell? In p*nts and tr**sers??? You think he's really going to know what you're talking about? Unless his mind, like yours, is thinking all the time about MUGs, I doubt he'll have any idea what p*nts and tr**sers are.

Would Peterson's kilt meet the uniform criteria of a "neat, professional, and pleasing" appearance? As seen in his uniform with kilt photo, very much so! Might give the UPS guys in their shorts competition for positive attention. Wonderful find, Carl!

I just spoke with a USPS employee ( around 5:30PM ) and
once he saw my 'Postal Blue UK'. He stated, some what
proudly, that the USPS emplyee union PASSED THE KILT
AS PART OF THE 'APPROVED' UNIFORM!

Wow, that's wonderful news!I guess it would be too forward of me to ask my mailguy his waist size. I do have a skirt friendly friend with a mailman husband though. I should go encourage her to help her husband pick his next uniform.

Is looking good, very positive, but only if there are enough MEN WANTING to wear skirts ( why only "Kilts"? )

I was thinking along the lines of not asking why should men be "" Allowed"" to wear SKIRTS but there should be asked why men are not wearing skirts, why aren't the "bosses"( only other humans) allowing the wearing of skirts. In the second question, thee is a unwritten statement that it is normal, when chosen, men's right to wear skirts if so pleased, and the persons involved who don't allow it to have to give account for themselves denying men their constitutional rights.

Or who they think they are to restrict men, keeping their constitutional rights from them. Why do they forbid men the right to wear suitable attire, when so chosen. Outdated discriminative rules and regulations urgently need updating.

I will say this, though, why "kilts" as they are only one type of skirt. SKIRTS should be put forth, and accepted, of which the kilt may be one of the options. Focussing on only the kilt is just too one sided and probably stems with the acception of the kilt COSTUME for men, but NOT the right of men to wear skirts. Which if I am correct, is just extending the arm of discrimination, narrow mindedness, which we, the skirt wearing community can see very clearly, now that we are on the other side so to speak.

Of course men wearing any skirt in oficial duty is a step forward, but let US be the ones pulling the strings, not small minded puppeteers giving an inch, only not to give any more.
