My answer to the GMA pantyhose challenge

Post by Pythos »

As I am sure most here are aware Good morning america had a pantyhose challenge, where they challenged some guys to wear pantyhose for a day. This was started by a woman host who was griping about pantyhose and how awful they were.

The "challenge" in my opinion was a joke. For one, the hose chosen were nothing less than crap for the legs. Cheap drug store no name most likely 100 percent nylon junk. For another did these guys really work out what size fit best? There is video of the guys putting on the hose...in their work trucks. They are pulling the hose on almost like pants, and yank and tug them on up over their boxer shorts, or briefs. Then they put shorts on over their hose and go out and do hot labor in the sun.

This was a stupid and ill thought out challenge. People who wear pantyhose wear them in air conditioned offices, and most certainly not doing hard heavy labor in a yard, in the blazing sun. One of the complaints I heard one of these guys saying is the hose were bunching up. Actually it is my guess it was not the hose bunching up but the stupid boxer shorts they had on beneath them. They complained the hose were sliding down. This I suppose was due to them wearing them over hairy legs, and under shorts. My experience is when I have worn hose with shorts, the cuffs of the shorts no matter how loose tend to pull tights or hose down, hence one of my reasons for not doing the whole hose with shorts routine.

So, in answer to this ridiculous "challenge" I have come up with my own. As you know I work on aircraft. When I do, I wear coveralls as my uniform usually with a t-shirt and underpants beneath. A problem I have on hot days is my legs and arms stick to the inside of the coveralls, dragging on my skin and making things generally unpleasant. Then in the afternoon I fly traffic watch, where on hot days it is not unusual for the Outside air temperature to exceed 100 degrees on a hot day, the cabin of the plane is a couple of degrees warmer, even with the vents open. It's hot.

What I am going to do is address the whole pulling down, and bunching up issues brought up in this challenge. On the side I am going to see if they help reduce the stickiness of the coveralls to my legs.

I am going to wear hose under my coveralls, along with a tank top.

One day I'll wear them without underpants, and the next with a pair of regular mens briefs. I am not going to try the idiotic wearing of boxer shorts under hose, that is just obviously the incorrect way to wear any skin tight article of clothing.

My bet to myself is that there will be no bunching, and the sliding will be minimal if non-existent, with shaved legs and the hose worn on their own.

The hose I have chosen are a pair of Beige mist, No nonsense Almost Bare control top hose, with the Bare Control panty size B. I have worn these hose a couple of times under leggings, and skirts and have found them to fit me quite well and usually I forget I have them on. I choose these for these qualities.

Day one.

After waking up and having breakfast I prepped for the first part of the challenge. I trimmed my legs, applied my normal lotion on them. Took my hose out of the packet, and ran them over my hands and arms checking for any damage. Following this I sat on the edge of my bed, removed my briefs, and put the hose on. Unlike the guys in the challenge I did not just drag them up my legs, running the risk of destroying the legs. Instead I rolled them up, spread open the toe of the right leg, and pulled the toe over my foot. Slid the material onto my foot and lower leg. Repeated the process for the other leg, then worked the material up working from side to side. These hose are on the snug side, which I feel is the best fit for hose, too tight they are murder to wear, to loose they wanna slide. Once I got the join of the legs up against myself, I work up the top portion, and made sure the seams were straight, and made sure the legs were straight. After that I put on my tank top, coveralls, and boots.

Today was a hot day, and the work was heavy. I was climbing in an out of an aircraft's cabin, in a hot hanger with little to no ventilation. The hose acted as a barrier between my legs and coveralls. They were however a little hot. But not unbearable. I worked my whole 8 hr shift, and experienced none of the sliding down or bunching up the GMA challengers griped about. Following that I drove to the other airport for my 2hour flight for traffic watch. Something I did notice was the very pleasant feeling when any kind of breeze made its way up my legs. Instant cooling effect. We took off and climbed to 1500 ft where due to the temperature inversion outside air temperature was 105 degrees F. This was the average temp the whole flight. The flight deck temp was most likely 106 to 110. I noticed that once again the hose acted as a barrier between my legs and outerwear. No bunching or sliding was encountered. My legs were warmer than they would be bare under the coveralls, but this was negated by my not being impeded by my coveralls sticking to my legs.

As of now I am still in the hose, under my lounge around slip. I will be taking them off and rinsing them for tomorrow. The only notable damage is one tiny snag to which I have applied clear nail polish, this may have been previously unnoticed damage from a previous wearing. I have found little to no discomfort while wearing these on this hot day.

Day Two.

Once again following breakfast, I put lotion on my legs and got ready to put my hose on. But this time as I put them on, I was in my Men's cotton briefs. I put the hose on in the same manner as yesterday, unfortunately in putting them on the previous damage had turned into a silver dollar sized hole. Out with the clear polish.

The feeling of the hose with briefs was odd to me. I have tried this before and did not like it, and little had changed today. The cotton formed little ripples on the sides of my hips, and the leg holes made the hose lumpy where normally they are smooth. Making sure there was no other damage and the hole had stopped its spread, I put on my tank top, and coveralls. I put on my boots, grabbed my stuff and went out the door. Today I was to continue installing an engine one of my Co-workers had started installing yesterday. Lots of bending, and lifting, pulling and pushing. The temperatures in the hanger were just a little lower than yesterday. My arms were starting to stick to the coveralls, but the hose once again acted as a boundary, and stopped my legs from sticking. The hose throughout the entire work day did not slide down, and the temperature was not at all bad. However I did find myself pulling the crotch down every now and then, this was due to the bunching of the briefs, not of the hose as intimated by the "challengers" in the GMA joke. I was quite aware of the briefes under the hose, and found them to be a bother. The undies made the hose a bit more uncomfortable to wear due to the bunching, and riding up of the leg holes. After work I went to the other airport for my traffic watch stint. 1 hour into the flight I wanted to get back on the ground and get out of the combo under my coveralls. But I stuck it out. The hose themselves worked wonderfully as far as reducing the impedence of my legs, the compression felt great for my legs as I pushed against the rudder pedals during our various maneuvers. The Briefes? Being unplesant in the groinal region. I also was well aware of the two waistbands around me, when normally when worn in this mode there is only one.

Yesterday I virtually forgot I had hose on aside from the freer movement of my legs, and the nice compression. Today I was well aware I had hose and briefes on.

With my little answer to the challenge I can positively say that the way they did the test was badly done. I experienced none of the sliding down that was mentioned in the challenge, I never got over heated, or sticky. The waistband in both wearings stayed put. I have to say, if briefs were truly required under hose or tights, I would not wear them. But fortunately this is not the case. I in my own opinion learned that hose with undies make them un-comfortable. Hose worn as undies you basically forget you are wearing them (at least I do). If they do not fit right from the get go, perhaps a size up or down is in order. The common complaints about them being itchy, and sticky to the legs, is to me nonsense. I personally think it is all about the quality, and fit of the hose in question.

I understand there are some here that will think, or even post how stupid or pointless this thread is because hose are for women only, but if that is true then why are the marines, and other members of our armed forces wearing them beneath their uniforms? You might be surprised at what you are limiting yourself from, due to the limits society has been allowed to place on you.

Now I challenge the ladies and gentlemen here to do as I did. I wanna here of your experiences, along with what hose you chose, and what you wore over them. Wear them one day with underwear, and the next without. Let's really get an answer to how true the complaints are.

The following day I tried a more common brand of hose. Leggs reliance, these are a bit tougher and rougher material compared to the no nonesense hose I wore for the challenge.

No problems experienced.

I notice that the media as well as women sometimes do these things to mock and show absurdity. Like when men do the occasional wearing of dresses (staged) and the girls bring the frilliest dresses they have for the boys/men and everything else that most men wouldn't even think of wearing. Then they say that men simply aren't made for skirts, dresses, or panties. That's when I would ask, "is this outfit something you would wear out most days". I bet you their answer would be a no.

Most of the message was erased as Pythos made a good point, as well as the forum rules. What's under the skirt/kilt is really only the concern of the wearer and people the wearer gives privilege to enter that area.

Sapphire just pointed out that I forgot to take my "mod hat" off in my prior post, and it's just as well because this post needs commenting on:

Is this something that you really want to advertise to the world? If so, that's fine, but in most circles that's what's euphemistically known as "too much information". It also goes against the grain on SkirtCafe's policy about keeping discussion limited to items of attire that are on public display. What you have on that's not supposed to be seen by the general public falls outside SkirtCafe purview unless there are compelling reasons for discussing it.

[Mod hat off]

Jeez that thing is scratchy! And it keeps talking to me... Something about warthogs...

I have to partially agree with what Cf friend is saying.

Please all, understand I made this post in response to GMA's joke of a challenge that did nothing but malign pantyhose yet again, with the same old complaints. The mention of what I wore beneath was because one of the main complaints I here about hose (this is also a unisex term for legwear) is that they bunch, which I don't think would be a factor, especially in the challenge where the challengers wore boxer shorts.

The focus of this is the alleged discomfort of hose in general. If I can wear them in a 110 degree cockpit, then I really do not see where the whole issue of discomfort really comes from. I would think under a skirt hose in that environment would be even more pleasant, wheras bare legs would be sticking to the seats, or the material of the skirt.

Also I was quite serious about people here doing their own challenge, and report their findings.

I for one see no reason to wear panties, since I have what is the male equivelant. Nuff said.
