Family

Post by Uncle Al »

Some people may think this is :offtopic: but,
when it comes to family, we all have good and
not so good 'members' in the family. Some
readily accept our choices. Others think to
much 'inside-the-box'. My in-laws don't think
anything about my kilt wearing. ( Haven't tried
the skirts yet. ) My wife gets a bit upset when
I'm wearing my skirts, but doesn't say much.
If I go out of the house, in public areas, I go
kilted. ( Still to many 'good ol' boys' around
to try skirts, and it keeps 'Mama' happy. )

Here, at the Cafe', I feel that each of you are
part of my family. Even though it's a 'Cyber Family',
it's still family. Just like a physical family, each
person here as their own 'uniqueness'. When a
person/patron is 'down', all here offer support
and help to cheer the person up. We all feel happy
with good news, and sad with bad news. Each
person here has a special place in all our hearts.

There is to much violence and dis-trust going on,
and it is magnified by the media. Unfortunately, a
Good News Story is not media worthy. Our local
TV stations do try to give a good news story on
each of the evening broadcasts. The ABC affiliate
tries to end the 6PM broadcast with an up-beat story.
They, at least, try to brighten our day and make us
feel better about our community, our family.

I just want to say THANKS for being here,
and I'm glad that I can call you all Family. :D

Nicely put, Uncle Al, and I thought I was the only one who regarded the forumites here as a family. My excuse is that, other than my wife who is in poor health, and a daughter from a previous relationship whom I have not seen for four years, I have no near relatives as I am an only child. I have to stay at home a lot to nurse my wife and I would get lonely if it was not for the internet.

Cessna152towser: I, like you, am an only child. The only brother
and sisters that I have, are by marriage. They have blessed me
with 2 nieces and 1 nephew. :woops: Almost forgot, a nephew-in-law.

No other 'close' relatives on my side of the family. I do have a
couple of great sons, a daughter-in-law, and a grandson. Of course,
a great wife, as well. ( 36 years, this year. ) I'm still working on
getting her to accept the idea of men ( me ) in skirts as every
day wear. But, enough of that--Don't want to bring all the 'skeletons'
out of the closet! :laff:

Thanks for being a friend and cyber family member :!:

Uncle Al, squeeze those nieces and nephews tight and be real good to them. It's better when you're old to have relatives than to be alone. I'm the last of my family and I live alone. I hate it. :(

I don't think we have to say that we all are grateful for having this community of kindred hearts, but it doesn't hurt us to do so once in a while. Thanks for those thoughts Uncle Al. And, Skip, it is good to read your voice again. I, for one, have missed hearing from you.

This is really great stuff, guys.
It is all too true.
I too have little other than this community, have three children all living very close, but have very little contact. I have very few friends, so i am too quite alone, and have found friends on the other side of the world here whom I am very hapy to have and very grateful for.

I do hope only that I can keep on contributing, letting me be heard of, as sometimes there is just vey little to add, and I don't want to always have the last word. :?

Also we all must have the time to be able to choose if we are to sit behind the magic screen or do something else. Those who have a very time consuming life will be far pressed to find that time. I myself have not visited the site as often as I did a month ago, tiring a bit about spending many hours behind the screen. As is with so much that is intensely followed / done, there soon comes a moment when we must break the monotany, and hopefulley thereafter return with new energy.

I """Love"""" you guys and the odd lady amongst you.
Having good friends helps makes living worth while.
And of course being yourself and wearing what you want, amongst other things, skirts, helps keep us who we are and sane.

Ps I had a meeting with three other skirt wearers last saturday in BREDA the netherlands ( look it up on google earth) and that was very enjoyable.
I didn't need any encouraging in wearing the skirt openly, but it was nice to walk a busy street with others who have the same passion. A nice day out, which I strongly reccommend to other skirt wearers.

You know, it never does hurt to say I appreciate this place. I do. And also the people who play here and run it.

Wife and I passed thru Duncanville, TX the other day. Had to deliver a load in Dallas and then get reloaded in Arlington, so passed thru on I-20 headed back to Nashville. Thought "Cool, there's a guy on Skirt Cafe from here" as I drove by.
So - Hello from I-20 - hahahahaha

Imadube--you should have PM'd me, I'ld have given you my cell number,
and we could have gotten together for a quick cup.

Maybe next time...... :D

Yea, maybe next time. Trouble is we never know where we go until seems 5 minutes before we gotta be there. American Trucking is always last minute "go" or be late.

:? :P :P  "odd" meaning not odd, as in an odd person, but meaning there being only a few women on the forum. :? I don't think that the women on the forum are odd at all. On the contrary. Nice word with two meanings.

Although I have my moments when I'm gone from here, I will never leave permanently by choice :D

The folks here, no longer amongst us and those still around, have actually been quite helpful in my transition to skirt-wearer, as well as during my divorce.

I have long wished I could travel across the globe for the exact purpose of meeting everyone of you!
Perhaps someday when I write a best-selling novel, or pen an especially well-liked song, invent a unique and highly successful widget (although now-a-days a widget is one of those tiny computer programs, but I mean the old fashioned whatchamacallit), I'll be rich and can do this.

I do appreciate having been absorbed into the fold here.

Thanks for starting this thread... it's a nice one for sure! :D

This is a wonderful circle of friends and I'm happy to be part of it.

I have a younger brother with whom I have little in common. We have tried hard to be friends, but in the end those attempts have never worked. I wish him the best though.

When we were little we lived near my mother's sisters, their families, Mom's Mom. Mom's brother lived a little bit away but could get to family getogethers. And what a romp those were! The cousins were all rather close in age and we all liked each other and played well and loudly. The aunts and uncles were like extra moms and dads. The decibel levels were high and the language was a mix of English, Spanish and Spanglish.

Over time, the family elders are mostly gone and the cousins dispersed. The last family reunion of the "Puerto Rican Mafia" was for Grandmother's funeral. Carl got to get a taste of what that was like: the love, the crying, Uncle Joe juggling guns....... The Sopranos in Spanish

But things change with time and this cyber family works and I'm happy.

I have always regarded SkirtCafe as a world-wide community, and it pleases me no end that that is what is really seems to be! We're larger than any known (I think) "family", and we're vastly broader, but we all share common bonds; our interests may differ widely, but it's the commonality of skirt-wearing (and how common is that for blokes!) that binds us together; and there's a level of caring that's palpable. I can only term this phenomenon "wonderful".

As in any community, be it physical and localised, or virtual and without worldly boundaries, there will be broad differences in philosophies, viewpoints, and opinions -- and we're no different. But, the way that we encourage one another, offer hints, support, and guidance, is really magic.

I've cared deeply about this little community for quite a while now, and I derive enormous enjoyment from it (I just hope to be able to put some back in for everybody else!). The virtual "push-pins" popping up on "Imadube's" Frappr map are interesting, and point up that there are folks who may only "lurk" in quiet corners of our little community who have made themselves known. This, too, is encouraging, as the last time I had to do anything remotely "invasive" on the main server I found that there were fewer than 200 "registered" individuals that had "passed through town" since the first of the year; that's a positively tiny number in the grand scheme of things. But yet we go on. And this is good!

I've been away for a week and , funnily enough, I've missed the family here and the interaction between us all. See "out and about"
