Best styles for men in 2008

Post by Charlie »

Right you scruffy lot (only kidding :) ), here's what you should be wearing this year.

http://www.helium.com/items/919257-rang ... sh-catwalk
The colors for this year incorporate those classic colors of gray and black,
I'd call them standard male colours
though have tended to include also shades of blue...
Might I suggest that for "classic" you substitute "We can't be bothered/haven't the imagination to dream up something new"? Or am I losing touch with reality?

SkirtCafe members, between us, could come up with some far better styles for 2008. Thanks for reporting the article, nevertheless, Charlie.

Yikes! Same old, Same old.....

Black dress shirts? Has someone o'd on the Sopranos???

Recently, I bought Carl some shorts: pink, lavendar and lemon yellow. I'd have the bought the blood red shirt and the deep sapphire blue shirts if I could have found them in his size.

Is all they can offer are narrow lapels on jackets and blazer styling from 40 years ago all in blah colors? Gacque!

I do have to say that I love double back vents on jackets. So flattering for the male physique.

Overall, this article is so disappointing.

Spiritually, grey and black are very negative non-colours. (Sundown is in 30 minutes so the Agnihotra software just reminded me!) As you can see, I am a more metaphysical (ratbag) person than most and wear colours suited to my aura. Anyone with a grey or black aura should ring the undertaker immediately! I sat grinding my teeth at the bland drivel dished out as "exciting" mens fashion
Funnily enough, after the Easter vigil last night, which lasted two hours, we needed some quick sustenance and went to Hungry Jack's for a burger and chips (I refuse to call them fries  ) and the joint was just about full. All the young men were dressed in black suits and black shirts with lurid ties, like a mafia do in my opinion. Definitely the fashion :( Seems we were in a room full of Jehovah's Witnesses celebrating Easter and- miracle upon miracle- nobody tries to give us any "literature"!

I've just added this article to the Helium list:

Oh dear, is this the best the men's fashion industry can come up with? I know recycling is the in thing, but do we have to have recycled fashion? If all you can offer are narrow lapels on jackets and blazer styling from 40 years ago all, I'd rather not bother.

And the excitement about the same dull male colours which I call the four Bs – black, brown, beige and blue. Not forgetting grey and white. The other articles refer to these as 'classic'. For classic, I'd like to substitute the phrase "We can't be bothered/haven't the imagination to dream up something new". How about red, yellow, green, or a beautiful deep purple, burgundy, irridescent blues and greens.

Yes, what is on offer is smart, but it's hardly inspirational. I suspect the fashion industry knows that whatever it produces, men will buy because they have no choice but to buy what is on offer, and that is a pretty poor choice. Why, when it comes to that emblem of manliness, the trousers, women have a greater choice.

Perhaps it's time for a renaissance, a radical shake up of men's fashion. How about doing some research and coming up with a viable, practical skirt that men would wear? And I don't mean the outlandish creations for the cat walks that no-one would want to be seen dead in. Then, with the power of television advertising, you'd soon create a whole new market and income stream – just think of all those £s and $s you could make!.

If you want to get out of the rut you've been in for the past 150 years and do men a fashion favour, here's something to inspire you:

http://www.utilikilts.com/

I have no interest in these companies except for the garments they produce. Personally, I feel let down by the men's fashion industry and seek out alternatives. I wear trousers to work, but that is only because the corporate world is Dickensian in its attitude to male clothing. Outside work I wear garment produced by some of the companys I've listed above. It's done my confidence wonders and I feel much more relaxed.

I hope to see the day when I can go into a shop and not stand in the dull, boring men's department and look across the aisle at the bright and colourful women's department without envy; somehow I don't think this will happen for another 150 years. Please prove me wrong.

I could have used black dress shirts in the 1980s -- along with black ties and black suits. If anyone here has ever worked on electrostatic plotters that use liquid toner you'll immediately know what I'm talking about....
Gacque!
Ooh! The fancy spelling. Is that anything like "junque"? (Or referring to "Target" as "Tar 'zhay?)

I'll second that. It's a complete re-run of things that have already been done to death. (Cue the minister from Blazing Saddles) "Son, you're on your own."

A regular "Man in Black", eh?

Isn't that the way it's supposed to be spelled/said????

Why wait? step across to the other side, take a walk on the wild side, end taste what the other sex has to enjoy clothes wise. Without going tranny. Some clothes are practically unisex. But it is not for the faint hearted.

Nothing basically wrong with a difference between the "cold"men's fashion, with a few exceptions, and the "hot" women's fashion, but more choice for men, in colours, styles etc, would definitely be much welcomed.

There is one big downside about fast changing fashion, such as women's fashion, that is the cost. in Dollars. Keeping up with fashion is near impossible, and costs a fortune :? :( :(

So it's no wonder most men don't seem to be bothered about the same old dull fashion. It's cheap to keep up with.

Rather than keeping up with fashion, why not create your own look? Most of what comes out in women's mass market fashion is just a rehash of recycled looks for more money. There are however, looks that are classic and work for years.

I'm reminded of Joe Hill's song, "The Preacher and the Slave". The final refrain is:
You will eat, bye and bye,
When you've learned how to cook and how to fry;
Chop some wood, 'twill do you good
Then you'll eat in the sweet bye and bye
