Due to the fuel shortages in parts of the UK I decided to walk into town today. I was wearing a knee length denim skirt, nude tights and a purple t-shirt. I only heard favourable comments form the people I met , and 2 women said to me that it was good to see men trying something different instead of men being like sheep.

A rough night out

Post by crfriend »

This evening the splendid Sapphire and I sallied forth to our little local watering hole for some quiet libations and dinner. She wore a T-shirt and trousers; I had on a pink (and I mean pink) dress shirt and my burgundy tiered skirt.

All was fine until one of the other "regulars" (who we know fairly well) pretty much passed out at the bar (highly atypical behaviour) and common-sense intervened and the paramedics were called. We're waiting to hear how he's doing; there's already one too many brass plaques on the back of bar-stools reading, "In loving memory of ..."!

On the way out, I overheard a question posed from some random bloke to someone else: "Was that guy wearing a skirt?" I didn't have the emotional resources to turn around and say, "Yes."

I got a skirt in the mail today, it's diamond? cut longer in the front and back than the sides but very symmetrical in that way. It also has a snap on cargo pocket and some belt that's connected and sewn into the waist and connects (connected part) using 2 "D" rings (like you would find on a helmet). The skirt is extremely light weight and that's important because it's black. Fits very well and has a zipper to get in and out of that's located on the left side. Length is down to about mid calf and feels really good.

Other than that, had an interview today so I had to wear the suit businesswear crap, but it didn't last for long (the interview didn't go bad, just didn't last for longer than an hour).

A wrap around wool "Scottish" knee length skirt with black boots just brought, a bottondown short sleeved business shirt and a fleece top.

for most of the day I wore the Rendez vous skirt I bought at REI, but that skirt is a bit too long and dark for the 89deg F. that it was today, so I borrowed my fiancee's skirt I bought her at Target *gagg*Image since it's much lighter and not quite knee length. No adverse looks or reactions, plus I'm getting used to wearing it outside to bring in cans to the garage once the crap has been collected, driving around in them, my fear is somehow turning to a "what am I doing??" to " I really don't care if they see me, oh well it's a skirt, she's wearing one too".

First thing she did to the skirt was remove the little tie on the waist. I didn't like it nor did she.

Lite green shirt with collar, black over-the-calf support
hose, Black Watch SWK and shoes. Had several good
comments today. The best one was at Borders Book Store,
in the Highlands at Arlington. It is an outdoor shopping
mall. The ladies comment was---" I see you dressed
appropriately for the Hightlands!" I just smiled real big! :D
At another store, a comment was made to my wife
as they walked behind me. The lady told my wife
"that she loved a man in a kilt". My wife responded
that she did too! :D

Well, I finally decided to wear a denim skirt, after wearing only kilts (or trousered garments) for the past 2-3 weeks or so. Wore the Levi's pleated denim skirt with a black t-shirt that had the Campbell crest on it, a pair of bottle green kilt hose, and running shoes. Figured I'd do that since I was going to be offloading a filing cabinet from my car and didn't want to damage a $600 wool kilt if I happened to get something on it. Once I finished that, I did throw on the kilt, since I was going to be visiting some places that I've been mildly interested in getting employment at.

After rummaging around in some family heirlooms this morning and finding and cleaning up a couple of silver finger rings, one Navajo and one Viking style. I put both of them on my right hand, they were my dad's and fit me fine. Dug thru one of my old skirts boxes and found one I forgot I had. Wearing it now, a dark purple straight knee length skirt, made of corduroy and very comfortable. Picked out a matching dark purple T-shirt and my Birkenstock sandals to go to the Grocery store. Got about 3 comments on my (never seen before by the clerks) skirt, saying how well my ensemble worked for someone my size. Got a couple of new comments on how long my hair is getting, (about 4 inches below my shoulders) and 2 VERY jealous comments about how blond my hair still is at age 66 from (hehe) people in their 40's who are almost completely gray or white haired. My van is at the repair place so I used a taxi to go to the store and was offered a ride home by a friendly shopper, (a man) who asked lots of questions on the way home about the reasons a man (me) is wearing a skirt. He was very receptive to the part about lower back and hip support as he has had both hips replaced and has a lot of pain all the time. He didn't know if his wife would divorce him if he tried one but asked me if I'd mind coming to dinner one night and talking to his wife. Of course, any chance to convert another Bifurcated man into an Unbifurcated man I jump at.
Was a very interesting conversation and I think I might have got him really interested. After we unloaded my groceries at my house I talked him into wrapping a tube sarong around himself over his trousers and sitting down. He was amazed at the hip support and (I think) is gonna spend some time convincing his wife to let him buy or make a sarong.

I'm in the office now and have a customer visiting shortly, so it's uniform grey suit, boring black shoes, white shirt and a "suck your eyeballs out" bright fuschia neck tie (well I have to make a statement somehow, if only I could get some matching socks :D).

Later I will be driving to Plymouth for the weekend, since it will be about four hours sat in the car I will wear my newly purchased tan Utilikilt "survival". I'll probably pair the kilt with a black T shirt with a scuba diving logo (I'm away diving this weekend). Foot wear will either be long black socks pushed down to towards black suede shoes or sandals (no socks!) depending on temperature.

I bought the UK in the recent 40% off sale, despite misgivings about sizing that some have reported here, and have to say that both the speed of delivery and the fit were excellent. The workmanship is good, far better than any other kilts I own. The detachable cargo pockets work brilliantly for people like me who often have to carry loads. If I put things in them the cargo pockets on my Union Kilt tend to interfere with the handbrake and (more annoyingly) operate the electric drivers seat adjustment switches, which is a tad too exciting while driving fast... The pockets on the UK are simply removed and dropped on the back seat while driving, simple, effective, safe and my wife can take things out of them if necessary (mobile phone, wallet for tolls etc).

Have fun,

Ian.

Everyone needs this Car Repair Shop in their town. After them having my van for 3 days, doing everything but a tuneup to find out why my battery kept going dead, spending at least 4 business hours crawling around it, to find my side sliding door was not shutting correctly and bringing the battery down....the bill was..........0...A rock was stuck in the tracks at the bottom of the door..I'd NEVER have found that..I'd replaced the battery at $100 a pop 3 times in 6 months and that guy with 5 mechanics working for him, an acre sized yard with 50 cars lined up waiting for BIG jobs charged me absolutely nothing. Unbelieveable.

I wore an off-white patterned button-down shirt with a green cargo skirt from Eddie Bauer that I bought at the mall the other day. You can find it here: http://www.eddiebauer.com/EB/Women/Dres ... %22hide%22} it's the Textured Poplin Skirt. Very, very comfy, and very unisex looking.

I wore it with these shoes: Image

Another skirt I made from the same material as my tube skirt mentioned in my last post in the "Part Deux" thread, this one is A-line, just below the knee length with all the same saltwater tropical fish swimming in the ocean blue background cotton cloth. I really like these 2 skirts made from this material I bought on eBay for $6.00 total for 8 yards. A great buy. Dark blue pocket T-shirt, blue sox and brown loafers.

Went to the doctors to pick up a prescription for pain pills and got 2 negative comments in the waiting room. First time I've ever gotten a negative comment there and now 2 in one day from 2 unrelated persons. The first person said, "Are you a transvestite?" To which I incredulously replied, "Do you really think I look like a woman"? She replied, no, but why the skirt then? I considered my reply and then noticed the entree to the perfect reply..."No reason other than comfort, sort of like why you're wearing trousers"....to which she shut up like a clam. After she left, another woman, much older than me, probably over 80 asked me with no care if I was a "Drag Queen"...my answers were pretty much the same, as she was wearing levis...I put her comments off to the obvious thickness of her coke bottle bottom glasses. Two negative comments in one day, after no negative comments in over 6 months. Go figger! :blue:
