The most immediate problem is that the 'trannyfreak's well out-number those of us who 'just prefer to wear a skirt'.ziggy_encaoua wrote:One thing I'd say is the more exceptions any guy who wants to express fashion freedom etc not do so the less likely fashion freedom will be taken seriously or seen as normal. No ******** but that's exactly what I'm trying to do at the moment, I was just writing an essay slagging off dressing services but its not that easy to explain to those who might not be aware of the tranny scene why it is these places suck & are harmful.merlin wrote:Whoever can come up with a formula to break the perceived 'link' with "TV World", let them speak now!

Is it all that harmful?merlin wrote:I wonder what one of those places would do if ....... you turned up wearing a skirt! From what I've seen on television documentaries, all these places do is 'rig out' 'be-wig' and 'make up' blokes, stick them on high heels and send them tottering off to a local, 'accomodating' restaurant - oh, and relieve them of a bucket-load of cash! I would have thought it would put off anyone 'indulging', for life! Is it all that harmful, making wads of cash out of (apparently) willing customers? Apart from the short stagger down the (one) street, do they have any real impact on Joe Public?
Err yes the perpetuation of a stereotype which has on effect even on the likes of me & I’m a gruff Afrikaner with a f**king big bushy beard!

When I said I wouldn't wear a skirt to a funeral, I meant a skirt that wasn't a kilt. Although I don't wear kilts at all (ever!) if I did, I would probably be OK wearing one at any formal event, funerals included.
I suppose for me skirts are something I wear when I want to be relaxed and casual. Unless and until they bring out proper skirt-suits designed for men, I can't see me wearing skirts for any really formal occasions.
Ziggy (or anybody)
Excuse my ignorance, but could you please tell me exactly what a "dressing service" is and why it is harmful? Thanks.

"Dressing Services" ?
Ziggy,
I certainly intend no offence in this, but I don't completely understand your seeming fascination with separating "men in skirts" from out-and-out "want to pass" transvestites; the two are fundamentally different, and are different enough that even a layman on the street should be able to tell the difference. You mention that you're a "gruff Afrikaner with a f**king big bushy beard"; that's a sure sign that you have no desire "to pass" and are in the game for other reasons. Do you, perhaps, live in a part of the world that's, shall we say, "less enlightened" than most?
We're at one point of the "skirted bloke" spectrum (the assorted avatars point this up); the folks who "want to pass" are at another. The two aren't even peripherally related to one another because they're coming at the notion from entirely different perspectives. All that said, I've never met even a single "wants to pass" transvestite, but if I did, I suspect I'd approach him as I would any other bloke -- with respect and sensitivity.
I took a look at both of the links you provided, with the caveat that I had to bail from the first one in a darned hurry as it demanded a Flash download, and Macromedia's site crashes my browser, and cannot find any reason why these services should be reviled; they seem to provide a needed service for the narrow segment of the population who desire said services. Whilst they're certainly not for us lot, who are looking for "fashion freedom" (read, "the option to dump tr*users in favour of skirts"), they do seem to cater to a specialised need. I see no harm to the "male who simply wishes to ditch tr*users" in such notions.ziggy_encaoua wrote:Oh yeah there's this Dressing Service which also offers a bit more then the usual but can't say ithat's surprising

Skirt/Kilt???
Hey Stu,thanks for the clarification.
But I do wear a kilt or skirt almost all the time.I have the triditional kilt I wear for dress, and non tri. and some skirts I wear for casual.
I just got back from the old car show in down town Henderson NC.I wore my black Utilikilt and several people took pictures of me.
At any rate it was great.

I have worn my sarongs to church, even been on the reading and presiding roster in a sarong. Somebody asked the Priest if he objected, and he replied "Wouldn't that be hypocritical when I am in a white dress for this event?" I haven't heard much on the practical side of non skirt wearing. I wouldn't wear any loose clothing, including skirts and sarongs, (as we all know, a tight skirt is too restrictive in movement to be practical) in a workshop involving mechanised tools. Lathe, router, milling machine; and the same goes for farm equipment especially P.T.O. shafts between tractor and implement. Overalls are the go here as a practical alternative, and my ponytail gets tucked into my shirt neck, otherwise it is pretty much open slather.

Now that is the kind of support I love to hear about. Cool pastor.Sarongman wrote:I have worn my sarongs to church, even been on the reading and presiding roster in a sarong.
