What did *you* wear "out and about" today? part2
Today
Today I am wearing blue coveralls (like the farmers wear), blue crew neck T, striking tan socks and navy blue Crocs. I will knock the ladies dead with this outfit!

Tonight, out to dinner: lavender dress shirt, red waistcoat, burgundy ankle-length (fairly straight) skirt, and my usual shoes (which still need replacing).

Today, sunny weather, just warm enough to not wear a jacket. Today I was wearing a knee length denim circle skirt, bare legs, black (womens) sandles, and a white men's short sleeved shirt, the shirt worn tucked in the skirt.

Not sure if this counts as an "out and about" experience....
Last night, I went contra dancing in my blue 30" skirt, paired with yellow socks and a yellow shirt. One of my partners gave me a quizzical comment about the color combination, but I like it. The skirt sticks out nicely when I spin, which I do at almost every opportunity, partly for fun, partly for the ventilation. Several women said they were jealous, so I told them they should get one, too. I've sometimes thought of offering to trade skirts, but haven't had the nerve or the presence of mind to actually say it. Three couples announced their engagements. One of them was the caller, who had only proposed 4 hours earier. I danced with his charming fiancee, who was still rather overwhelmed by the experience. Made me sort of wistful that I didn't have somebody to propose to. You'd think after surviving a divorce I'd be more soured on the idea, but, if anything, the wish to be married is even stronger than before (but to the right person, please!) I guess I don't learn from experience.
Drove home along the Jersey Turnpike, and stopped off twice at gas stations for snacks and drinks. (Note for non-USA folks: most gas=petrol stations have a "mini-mart" with snacks, drinks, magazines, and a few groceries to supplement the minimal profit from gasoline sales.) The first time, the guy at the cash register wanted to know if I was wearing the skirt because of my ethnic background. I explained no, I just do a kind of dancing where guys sometimes wear skirts. He gave me sort of a "it takes all kinds" shrug. At the second one, I didn't even get a second glance. Didn't get home until 1 a.m.
Right now, it's warm (or was until the clouds rolled in), I'm wearing a purple NEFFA T-shirt, knee-length tiered red skirt with a light green hem, red ankle socks, and Teva sandals. Probably wouldn't pass muster with the more severe fashion critics here, but I like bright colors, the more, the merrier. I may change as it cools off, though.
UPDATE: I have added this skirt to my "Pics" posting.

These are just normal dances.SkirtDude wrote:Was this a special contra ball or do you just normally have to drive a long ways to dances?
The nearest Contra dance (in terms of time) is 30 minutes (17 miles) away, but it only happens once a month. The one that is 55 miles (1+ hour) away is twice a month, year around, and it's the nicest group in the area. The one in NYC happens every week, with a pile of exceptions, but though it's only about 30 miles, it's 1.5--2 hours to get there (by train), and the hall has that ratty "slum tenement" feel that most NYC buildings get (as do the people), so I rarely go. I sometimes go to New Haven (75 miles), but that makes for a long, painful drive home.
The issue for me is that I can only go if I don't have the kids, or if the kids are away, so where I go is more or less determined by my custody schedule.
I think I'm happier partnered. But I'm also very, very busy these days, and I think I'm still processing my marriage and divorce (which I hope means I'll make a better choice next time), so I haven't really been looking. Not that I'd turn down a nice person if she sort of dropped into my lapSkirtDude wrote:Sigh. To be perfectly honest I've kind of given up on finding Mrs. SkirtDude. A. I have an independent streak a mile wide and B. I have found that I am generally a much happier person when not partnered.

Today again very nice sunny weather, cold in the shade. 5 may is "bevrijdings dag" a rememberance day for the liberation of the Netherlands.
I was out in a dress today. Short arms, knee length, a black dress with a fine lined flower motive all over. 15 Den pantys and black pumps, I got plenty of looks, but people just look and walk on. So what, he's wearing a dress.
It wears very comfortably. and I would have worn only sandles, and bare legs, but I am don't have much colour on my legs, and with riding on my bicycle and walking in town I could get stripes easily where the sandles covered the feet, so I wore pantys. Which also looked very neat.
This may be very femme to some, but I am certainly a man, and enjoying every bit of wearing new found clothing options in public. Not everybody's cake. But I do have the balls to pull it off well.
Especially because I have no peretence to being anything but a man. Now that the weather is getting finally better and warmer, I may be wearing easier clothing more often, being denim skirts and T shirts / men's shirts, with Teva sandles.

I was out for a 12+ mile hike in my Mountain Hardware Hiking Kilt. There were just a few people out on the trails, including one young couple with a little girl, who said (quite sensibly, really) "He's wearing a hiking skirt". Before I could respond, the mother said, "It's quite a nice one". I accepted the compliment (and said that it was a hiking kilt) and was on my way. But since it wraps from right to left, I suppose it could just as easily be called a skirt as a kilt, despite what the manufacturer calls it.
