I have my car back. The brake lines rotted out. My car is a 1996 and all the road salt, mud etc got up into a conduit that held the brakes lines.

Yeah, we have had cabin fever. We did walk down to our favorite watering home a couple of times. I used to do lots of walking/hiking etc and back in the day, it was no problem for me to walk down to the post office, convenience store, butcher shop, Wal-Mart, bank, schools, athletic fields, etc. But, time and genetics have taken their toll and despite custom orthotics and ankle braces, I can no longer walk far, so am rather stuck without wheels.

But, I did do a cooking frenzy on Saturday and made a vat of chili, spicy queso, bread, cinnamon/brown sugar caramel sauce and an apple, pear, quince almond pie. I used Splenda, so don't go into fits over the sugar :D

Mmm ... so being stuck at home has its advantages, right Carl?

One could say that, yes, but the cats have been driving me stark raving bats because I've been trying to get stuff done for work that's "hotter than hot" at the moment. But, the food has been wonderful! I've even put on a pound.

Fortunately, I may have my wheels back this afternoon.

Not for long.

Baby is leaving this afternoon to go back to his rescue for placement into a forever home.

On the 23rd, the President from the other rescue will return from vacation. Broken Boy and the two baby girls will be leaving then.

And... Squinks and Douglas are dying.

Six cats are either gone or dead. Enjoy your brain.

There has been a dreadful disconnect between Sapphire and I in this thread, and I owe her a very public apology for that. I'm not going to make excuses over it, because as the writer it is my responsibility to get my point across, and in that vein I failled dramatically.

The past week has been a delightful experience; spending time with my dear Sapphire is a wonderful thing, and we got a full week of it. Rising with the sun was very pleasurable as usually I get up well before the crack of dawn to head off to work. Aside from chatting about current events and whatnot (of which there have been a few this past week), some of the more meaningful and poignant bits have been "how many cups of coffee would you like" (and I'd bring them upstairs), taking a few nice walks, and a gentle "sweet dreams" before bedtime.

And the food was great! Sapphire is an awesome cook, and did herself proud over the past several days. That I put on a little bit of needed weight bears testament to her prowess.

The little polydactyl kitten that Sapphire has hand-raised over the past couple of months departed today for a "forever home", and while we'll both miss him, this was for the best. Sapphire had several errands to run today, and the little guy spent a good stretch sound asleep in my lap. The two survivors of the quad-litter (which are also "bottle-babies") are acting like popcorn in their cage -- and are cuter than buttons, and sweet to match; they're likely going to be able to go later this month, as will the poor chap that took a spill from an 8th-floor balcony. "Broken Boy" also spent quite a while being a "cuddle pig" today as I "returned to work" from vacation to restart design and engineering work on how my company monitors its computing resources.

The early "return to work" was not anticipated; my boss directly appealed to me to get as much done from home as I could, and that changed my perspective.

I screwed up in posting a flippant comment in a very public forum that, by an honest reading, disparaged some of her very hard work, and for that I am profoundly sorry and offer an apology -- first to Sapphire and then to those here who misconstrued a flippant remark for something it was never intended to be.

Sorrowfully,

-- Carl
