What I want to know is why I can't just dress like THIS everyday!!

These pics are taken in my Man-Cave/Office ... can't wait for Halloween, and you can bet my costume will NOT have pants!!

It's seldom that I find myself at a loss for words, but I suspect it was the fit of giggles -- and then outright laughter -- that has kept me from commenting.

I suppose the main reason for not wearing such a rig as everyday wear might be the threat of the local constabulary picking one up for indecency. This, of course, will vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but it bears mention that if one is to go short one needs to take precautions.

That said, what reduced me to a gibbering pile was the hat. "Bloody brilliant!" is the only thing I can think of at the moment, and I'm still (unsuccessfully) stifling laughter.

On a "serious" note, I think I'd mention that the work boots don't "work" particularly well with the skirt, but the hat so overshadows that facet that any other commentary is useless.

Screw it: cue up Wagner's Ride of the Valkyeries and be done with. (It's not just the damn hat -- it's the grin that goes with it..)

My hat's off to you for that one; and make sure that I am not laughing at the imagery, but rather with anybody that has the cubes to put such stuff up in public where it'll likely be archived for the ages.

Chris, I'm sure you realize that this section of the forum (in fact, all except the Pics section) is viewable by the world, including, as Carl hints at, the robots that crawl the web, indexing and archiving it's contents.

You can get away with anything if you are just consistent and I've been consistently getting away with having fun with Mugs for years. It actually surprises me how rarely I see a pic of myself online given how public a Mugsman I am and how many pics I've posted on Kilt and Mug forums over the last 6 years. Of course I've had my picture taken countless times, both by those who have asked and those who have not, it just sorta comes with wearing Mugs full time in a place as conservative as Burleson, Texas.

One thing is for certain, I have no shame whatsoever for being a Kiltman, Mugman and Skirtman ... I'd say that it is this complete and utter lack of shame that actually allows me to Mug without constraint. Just yesterday I was at a business meeting in the fancy offices of my biggest client, in a short camo kilt, t-shirt and workboots ... nothing but compliments and hand shakes. The VP came in with a big grin on his face and said, "I just had to finally meet you!" He asked if my kilts were part of my marketing program and the guy who hired me said, before I could answer, "I'd seen his truck a million times but then I saw HIM one day, in a KILT, and that's when I drove up and got his card."

Folks, just be YOU, no apologies, no explanations and folks really will take great joy in being around you, they'll do business with you, they'll even respect your novel approach to clothing. Nearly everyone in society lives in a little bit of fear of everyone else in society ... when they see a man with no fear they don't judge him, no, they admire and appreciate him. But you can't fake it, if you skirt or kilt in this trousered world you have to do so without a hint of doubt, without the least hesitation ... if you don't then all those who see you will sense it and you will go from being a hero to a zero in seconds.

Bluntly stated, in the eyes of many, many people in modern society the difference between a pervert in a skirt and man in a skirt is confidence and, sadly, not having the confidence to wear your skirts and kilts in your front yard makes folks think you are a skirted pervert if they ever get a glimpse of you diving behind your couch ... now get off my lawn!

I Loved all those photos! I think Carl was thinking of, maybe, leather sandals or proper Viking sandals strapped to the knees on the first two pics. Don't worry though, work boots are so much part of my wardrobe that I didn't notice any incongruity until it was pointed out. (Blind Freddie has nothing on me

) The Peter Pan skirt effect with the "Viking" hat and skin cloak was what got me laughing. Now scuse me while I scuttle offen your lawn

You can. Just Do it...when the men with the white coats and that cute white coat with the extra long sleeves that they help you put on backwards, driving a white truck with no handles on the inside show up, just tell them it's your RIGHT to dress anyway you please!!

I salute you, Kiltmen, Skirtmen, Mugsmen all.

Yep, Halloween is the one day you can go about town however you want without having to fear the men in white coats!

I'm off today and one of the things on my 'to do' list is to start putting together this year's Blast in a Skirt get up. I take off every Holloween and spend the entire day going all over town and just saying howdy to everyone I know, been doing it for years. For some folks it is the only day I see them and they seem to look forward to it every year if for no other reason than to see what I've put together this year, often they pose with me for an annual picture!

It just hit me, I think that part of what helped me to transition to full time Muging was that folks had seen me year after year wearing some sort of Mug for Halloween ... given the over the top nature of my costumes it just didn't seem like much of a stretch at all for me to be seen in plain ole kilts. In the same vain the first time I wore a kilt to a Chamber of Commerce meeting was on a St Patrick's Day, all the County dignitaries were there, even the Sheriff, and they all seemed to think it was the coolest thing they'd seen and that I was likely the only guy in the county that could get away with it!

Holidays provide an 'excuse' to go out in your skirts, boys, and once you've been out a couple of times it just doesn't surprise anyone to see you in a skirt on just any plain ole day. I went first in my part of the country, now there are more and more guys all the time in Johnson County, Texas, at least occasionally putting on a Mug and going out in public ... they can do it because I did it and kept on doing it. That's how it works, somebody has to go first ... if you have not yet gone first you have an awesome chance coming up in about two and a half months: Halloween.

The first time I wore a sarong - only the only time for that matter - was at a pagan festival this spring. It was actually the last day of the festival, and one of the other campers persuaded me to wear it. That he spent most of his time completely naked, and other guys went around in sarongs, made this an easy thing to do. Nobody cares how you dress.

The second time was at a Renfaire, where once again people like to dress up in costume. Sure, there were plenty of guys in kilts, but I was one the only guy I could see wearing what could only be described as a skirt.

"Nope, it's not a kilt, it's a skirt," I would explain.

Such events provide you the opportunity to dress a little different, yet still remain completely invisible - because different is to be expected.

I have since worn a skirt out in public, to restaurants and such, but I am still some way from being completely comfortable doing so. Give me a little more time.....

I wore my denim skirt when doing the laundry at the apartment complex I live in. There was another guy waiting in his car . I took my stuff from the trunk and went in the room and found all the washing machines full...so when i got out the guy who was waiting came out of his car and told me it was about to time to take his stuff out.
I waited outside while he did that but when he left i ended up realizing that the denim skirt is a non-issue...

I am a skirt wearer. I wear demin skirts wen I am out & about. I also wear cotton skirts sometime. I can't afford a kilt, so I make due.Most people don't make comments to me.They just go about their bussness. I could care less what they think. I have been wearing skirts for about 1 year now. Wear and enjoy your skirts...
