No skirts in public around here ---

Post by imadube »

Well it seems that my thoughts about going skirted away from the house here are right on the money. Found a local chat board and posted the question about men in skirts and the flaming that fired up ("You just made me spew Mt. Dew, I know enough men who wear skirts. I'm good on my fill , i dont believe there is a such thing as a masculine skirt for a man, I'm know going to go rub some dirt in eyes cause all I can picture right now are the over weight guys having to do PT dressed up like Britney in the school uniform, pom poms in the hair and all.") - I expected but hoped wouldn't see - my advice "anyone in/near Ft Campbell, KY-Clarksville, TN area AVOID going skirted in public, may cost more then it's worth"
Just my luck - I live here, outcast at home.

Sorry to hear you got that reception in the chat. I can't say I'm surprised; I wouldn't expect that area to be among the more enlightened.*
Of course the people who populate chat boards aren't necessarily representative of the population. I'm sure if I posted a question like that on a local chat board here, I'd get a much more negative reaction than I'd get from people on the street. People often use the anonymity of such boards to say things they wouldn't say in person. The chat boards also seem to be like talk radio, over-represented by the conservative end of the spectrum.

* I'm not being disrespectful. I have many relatives in Tennessee, and I love 'em. But I know it's a very conservative social climate.

I'd guess that's because on the boards these people simply transplant women's clothing onto a man, and react to the mental image that produces. They react differently when they actually see the reality.
I suppose it's the same whenever you're taken out of your comfort zone; you imagine the worst, but the reality is not so bad.

I do say I guess I need to say I did not really mean to present this thread leading post as a skirt wearing stopper for me. I do wear skirts daily however I am unemployed, disabled and limited in transportation. I wear my skirts everyday inside and outside. I do my yard work that way mostly but do only activities while skirted that prevents exposure. I have a skort for many activities that skirts disallow. Also shorts as well. I usually go pants or shorts on away missions but mostly carry a skirt along to change into for my return trips. When I go out where I mostly will not need to go into any place I will go skirted. I have gotten gas in a skirt, but I paid via a debit card.
Now along with the comments I mentioned I am almost daily - pointed at, remarked to and photographed in my yard by passerby's. Several times people have turned around to get a "better" look. I usually wave and/or stand watching and waiting for them to get their jollies and leave. My next door neighbors have labeled me a pervert so I do try not to give them chances of having their fun - while they are out I usually just go around the other side of the house.
Not caring what they say or think is one thing but hearing it is difficult when you do not want conflict.
